General election 2020 (5 Viewers)

Lads, even if we lived in social-democratic utopia we would have to deal with the reduced workers-per-pensioner ratio somehow. Can you honestly not see that? It's either raise the pension age or reduce the pension (or raise taxes). Even the Swedes have raised their pension age. It's not something FG thought up on their own out of malice

I have absolutely no problem paying more taxes. My salary was gutted and my work conditions were considerably worsened 10 years ago because of the fucking bank bailout and its only very recently gotten back to where it was in real terms - and that included getting a promotion - but I’d be quite happy to take another hit if i knew it was contributing to a functioning health service or adequate funding for social housing or pensioners not being homeless and eating food off windowsills. All that commie stuff.

Yes, don't want to live in a social-democratic utopia, want to live in a democratic socialist utopia with high taxes that actually go into the country and not to, i dunno, greyhound racing and white water rafting down to the latest subsidized shopping district.

As someone whos only had personal budget for a few years and basically knows nothing about finance, I'm going to go out on a limb and say everyone can retire at 65 and have pensions if you budget for it if you have the most advanced population data in the history of mankind and a computer and room full of people qualified to do this kind of thing on government salaries..

But seeing we don't have any of those things I think everyone should work to the grave as a goal.

Sinn Fein's uneasy relationship with itself where hating empire is expressed through blood and soil nationalism continues.

Maybe he's just been watching Rowan Croft videos?

I'm not sure this rings true tbh. People vote for what they want the place to be like. If you are not well informed and well versed in these conversations then you haven't a hope of making any kind of inroads in your peer group or finding out things that would change your direction in voting. The alternative is waiting out for a slogan that seems to possibly encapsulate some kind of feeling. Lock her up, A lot done more to do, a future to look forward to. Beyond straight out bloodshed Countries change by 1 and 2% increments, sure by all means you can not enjoy it if you want but I'd much rather have some input and output and generally have a level of information that would give me confidence in whatever I end up scrawling an X beside. If you want really shit politics talk go to twitter and watch soundbites wage war with each other, but if you want have reasonable response to stuff when someone lands on your doorstep or god forbid a twitterati engages in the real world then hamming it out with the heads at thumped isn't the worst in the world by all means.

Pfffffffffft

Pete, you know I'm the same - more than happy to personally pay more tax.

What I'm saying is it's unrealistic to expect any government to fix every problem we have so that 67-year-olds can get the state pension. Pensionable ages are increasing almost everywhere in the western world, because of demographic change. If countries that are far better-run than ours can't avoid it, what makes us think we can?

A lot of this, 'Vote FF/FG out' stuff on twitter, which I totally get.

But, being realistic about it, the most effective TD in my area in the FF lad. He's done a lot for local causes and the general area. When it comes down to it, that's why people will vote for him.

I hate FF/FG and would never vote for any of the cunts. But people in my area couldn't give a fiddlers that yer man is FF. He'll top the poll by a mile.

I'm away for these elections. Haven't a notion who I'd vote for if I was here. Voted for Zappone last time. Wouldn't vote for her again, nor do I even know if she's running.
Fintan O'Toole was yakking away on the Irish Times politics podcast the other day opining that this is the election with the most uncommitted votes really in our lifetime, thinks about 50% is up for grabs to vote for not Fianna Fine. Suppose we'll see what happens.

At first glance this looks like a "Peoples Front of Judea/Judean Peoples Front" type of thing
Ah it does in fairness yeah. It's an evergreen joke...
