I would think that generally but i think honestly the timeline made it impossible for them at this point - when i say this point i mean 2030 being one of the milestones of the paris accord.

option 1 : go in in 2020 with no guarantee of 2024, possibly get minced but policy might get them a look in in 28 when the stuff from this term starts showing.

option 2: ignore 2020 and gamble on 2024, meaning no green policy will really be showing by 2030, and no guarantee of seat at the table, which they have not had for basically a decade.

For me, this is really it.

I was unsure if green party were doing the right thing in joining the ff/fg coalition at the time but in order to get policies through, you need the seats at the cabinet table.

With climate change, we can't afford to be waiting until 2024 or 2025 to see what outcome would be.

Will they get everything they want in the climate Bill. No, unfortunately but it is that they only have 12 seats to fg and ff seats of 72 in the government but that is the thing about coalitions.

I'm more interested in what is than what was. The left coalition failed in 2020, that is what happened and that is what we have. Lots of other things were possible then, but the other left parties who you want to be the either had to go all in on that, or fuck around, and PBP fucked around. We don't know what the result of GE 2020 mark 2 would have been. My suspicion is the SF protests voters would sway FF back a few % without having had a chance to see the unbelieveable fuckup that MM is. Varadkar was the darling of the nation after being a neoliberal mess for 4 years in the beginning of the pandemic with the Leo show on every friday at 6.01pm. At a guess, FF/FG/Lab would have been the 2.0, they wouldnt have had to bother with those bloody hippies when you can have a few fake socialists.

That is my guess, you can say I'm wrong, and i can 100% not prove that you aren't right because it didn't happen, and what is happening now is happening.

I say what I say about the hard border because in a million years of brexit negotiations it was never solved, why would it happen in two weeks while boris was melting? You can bet your cock SF would not have gone for a hard border to keep out the rona.

it would just be easier to dissolve the party and admit they serve no purpose if that was their approach. like saying 'i like playing rugby but i'm not going to enter the competition until i'm fairly certain i'm going to win'.

if you're a minor party, you accept that you're going to have to get in bed with someone you don't like if you want power. FF are problematic. FG are problematic. SF are problematic.

If greens didn't go in, they'd lose transfers and soft support from ff and fg voters
If they did go in, they lose the transfers and soft support from sf, Labour, soc dems voters

The greens were in a damned position either way, that it was unlikely in a second election to be losing support.

And in the middle of a pandemic going to vote in an election seems unappealing to me. If it had to happen, it had to happen but it was a good thing that it was avoided

Nobody said shut the border though. Just quarantine flights into Ireland or even cancel them or something. Just actually TRY and stop the virus spreading, instead of just sitting around saying "There's nothing we can do" when there clearly is something they can do.
There's now harder quarantine measures on the UK airports than there are in Ireland, and we're still sitting around doing absolutely fuck all of any substance.

I don't disagree with you on that. I'm mining why everyone wants to murder eamon ryan for doing exactly what the greens are supposed to do. I place the blame for what we are living in right now on the doorstep of Leo, MM and Stephen Donelly. That's not because I don't like FFG, it's because i've read the publicly available letters from NPHET that they've been 'negotiating' with for months now. I don't know, but as i said what is probably about 400 posts ago now, CETA= green party fail.

While i don't know - I wonder was he saying he'd do it to get the climate bill over the line, knowing the GP would tell him to get fucked in any case. I'd suspect he has been made aware of what ceta is like. I'm guessing though. the Ogra FF/SF's are objecting to it, but you know yourself the kids can kinda say anything without it really having real effect.
