I've never been able to 100% agree with fundits. I'm aware this thread could turn 'tumbleweeds', 'i know them and they are sound' or 'boycott', however, it seems to be something i cant decide about at all at all, and doesnt seem to be talked about that much.

However I have funded things in the past and am funding something at the moment. So somewhere between eff off and I know them and they are sound.

if i know them and they are sound, they have a track record with me liking them, i'm probably for it, especially if all i'm doing essentially is buying a record. If i dont know them, have know knowledge of the music, i immediately think 'pricks'.

i dont. in terms of this 'kaizen' shit i like, the way to operate is not to make something until people ask you for it, so you dont end up filling up the place with tonnes of cd's or whatever that will just be used to light the fire or underlay the patio. in that sense, its a better model for production of anything thats fossil based, where if it were fruit or veg, your logic is bulletproof.

I funded a few now, bands that I would probably purchase anyway. When it comes to music, and you know you'd like the band, I think it can be a good thing, but I make the decision on what I'll receive in return

I don't like the theatre companies etc. who are looking for patronage, a lot of production companies on fund it don't even offer a ticket to the show until you get to the €50 mark, that's fucked

yes. i think thats part of why it confuses me so.

there's 143 projects there though. i wonder would even half those have been remotely possible without the funding. the funding does prove an audience and demand for those things, the other option would be arty types shouldering massive debts which is something arty types arent the most proficient at doing. possibly.

I've given some small consideration to this malarky and I don't like it.Its all too touchy feely.

I've seen people trying to raise 2 grand to make a record.You could buy the gear to make 10 records with that kinda loot.

If you wanna make a record badly you'll find the bread.These schemes are an attempt to take the risk factor out of your enterprise.If you're not confident enough in your product to take a financial risk then I'm not sure I even wanna hear it.

To me,it stinks to much of selfishness as in "give me money",granted there is something given in return,but rarely does it warrant the amount of money given.

Maybe my age is showing,or I just have a different perspective on things.

Also,rarely have I seen one for a genuine good worthy cause.
Fundits for bands who can't be arsed playing a few gigs to raise money=loads,fundits for crippled children=none.
