i don't think it ever took off

Every one of these socials had a 'moment' - a few of which were manufactured 'moments' where an even like swsx had them on board meaning loads of press / media noisy type people got involved. If we are to be honest, glinner and jk rowling sitting about chatting normal* was the appeal of twitter. Looking at people from school was the intro to facebook. Mastodon didn't reallty have a 'oh we have to know what kayne / trump / kashardian' is thinking moment yet really, so it might just not move beyond the fringes for that reason. I think most people had a breif moment of the moral thing to do on twitter being to tell people you were on mastodon, but not really actually leave twitter

anywhooo.

tldr, mastadon needs a celebrity deathmatch or two to become in anyway a mainstream thing.
