....just how should a fellow dress?

Meeting a grade-A honey tonight in a pub for a first date. She won't be a tap-in, that's for sure, she'll require intricate build-up play, astute tactics and 110% effort on my part.
To that end, I've no idea what to wear.
I always agonise over how I should dress on the few first-dates I've been on in the last number of years. Shirt, slacks, shoes and I look smart but maybe like I'm trying too hard. Shirt, jeans, shoes and I look like I'm from Leitrim. Jumper, jeans, loafers and I look like I didn't make an effort etc. etc.

What think ye? Smart but with a mysterious, daring edge would be the ideal.
tks

what is the best pub for a first date?

A pub is not the best place for a first date.

But go somewhere that you can get a seat easily (shouldn't be too much of a problem on a Wednesday in January) and doesn't have a lot of tellies.
I would also counsel bringing her somewhere that serves food, so it feels more like an actual date.
Also, take the initiative on this shit. DO NOT ask her where she wants to go.
At most, suggest one or two places and see if she has a preference.

There are no one-size-fits-all answers with women.
Find what she likes to do and mine that seam til she thinks she likes you.

Shoes(never runners),black trousers(no pleats obviously),Dead Kennedys t-shirt(or similar),warm jumper(too be removed in the pub,thus giving her a look at you stretching and shit),sensible coat(cos its freezing),hat scarf and gloves!

BINGO!

Be clean, wear a button shirt... most of all make sure you're confident in whatever you're wearing. You don't want to look like you're wearing someone else's clothes...

Have a good time and enjoy yourself, that's the most important bit.

is this some kind of anniversay thread?

Bring something from the legal highs thread,in case shes up for getting monged.

Wear what you would normally wear for a night out. You're better off comfortable than wearing something you feel weird in, because if you're not comfortable it will be obvious, but the reason won't be.

The Gravediggers is a great spot for a first date.
Bit outta the way,but lovely gargle.
