Academy Award winning director of SENNA and AMY, Asif Kapadia to attend special preview screening of his latest film
DIEGO MARADONA in the Irish Film Institute

The Academy Award and four-time BAFTA Award winning director/writer/producer Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna) will be travelling to Dublin next Tuesday 11th June to attend a special preview of his latest documentary DIEGO MARADONA ahead of the film’s Irish cinema release on Friday 14th June. The special screening which will be hosted by the Irish Film Institute (IFI) will feature a post-screening Q&A where KATIE director Ross Whitaker will chat with Kapadia about the film and the football legend Maradona.

In DIEGO MARADONA, Kapadia, known for his visually striking films exploring characters living in timeless, extreme and unforgiving landscapes, focuses on the much-loved yet controversial footballer during his time at SSC Napoli, where he arrived in 1984 for a world-record fee. The world's most celebrated football icon and the most passionate but dangerous city in Europe were a perfect match for each other. Maradona was blessed on the field but cursed off it, as the charismatic Argentine quickly led Naples to their first-ever title. DIEGO MARADONA is the wild and unforgettable story of raw talent, glory, despair and betrayal, of corruption and ultimately redemption.

Kapadia is best known for his hugely successful feature documentaries SENNA and AMY. SENNA was the international box office hit and BAFTA-winning feature which told the thrilling story of the Brazilian motor-racing legend Ayrton Senna. His follow-up AMY which world premiered in Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival, told the story of music legend Amy Winehouse in her own words. AMY is the highest grossing UK documentary of all time that won the Academy Award for Feature Documentary and the BAFTA for Best Documentary.

DIEGO MARADONA will be released in cinemas across Ireland on Friday 14th June.

The Irish Film Institute will be hosting the special public screening with Q&A with Asif Kapadia on Tuesday 11th June at 8.10pm. Tickets can be purchased through the IFI website: DIEGO MARADONA + Q&A - Irish Film Institute
Like I'm a bit late here and all, but DIEGO MARADONA is one of the greatest films ever made!!

UNIVERSAL PICTURES IRELAND AND LIGHT HOUSE CINEMA ANNOUNCE THE LIGHTHOUSE WITH DIRECTOR ROBERT EGGERS LIVE Q&A

Universal Pictures Ireland and Light House Cinema are delighted to announce a special preview screening of THE LIGHTHOUSE on November 30th at 6.30pm.

The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with director & writer Robert Eggers. This special screening is happening over two months ahead of the film’s release on January 31st.

Writer-director Robert Eggers secures his position as one of cinema’s most exciting contemporary auteurs with his mesmerizing, otherworldly second feature THE LIGHTHOUSE. Set on a remote island off the coast of New England, two lighthouse keepers (Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson), trapped and isolated due to a seemingly never-ending storm, engage in an escalating battle of wills, as tensions boil over and mysterious forces (which may or may not be real) loom all around them.

Featuring many of the same talented craftspeople that brought THE WITCH to life—including cinematographer Jarin Blaschke, production designer Craig Lathrop, costume designer Linda Muir, composer Mark Korven, and editor Louise Ford, THE LIGHTHOUSE is a terrifying, transportive journey into the unknown.

This event will take place on Saturday 30th November at 6.30pm in Light House Cinema. Tickets are €16 and are available HERE.

Cage, if deals close, would star as actor Nicolas Cage. The character is desperate to get a role in a new Tarantino movie while also dealing with a strained relationship with his teenage daughter. He also occasionally talks to an egotistical 1990s version of himself who rides him for making too many crappy movies and for not being a star anymore.

The Cage character is also under a mountain of debt and finds himself forced to make an appearance at the birthday party of a Mexican billionaire who happens to be a fan of Cage’s work and secretly hopes to show him a script on which he’s been working.

While he bonds with the man, Cage is informed by the CIA that the billionaire is actually a drug cartel kingpin who has kidnapped the daughter of a Mexican presidential nominee and is recruited by the U.S. government to get intelligence. The situation spirals even more dramatically when the Mexican brings over Cage’s daughter and his ex-wife for a reconciliation, and when their lives are on the line, Cage takes on the role of a lifetime.
