I did not know that only Ireland and California had that system where only the person who made the call could end the call. Remember when someone would ring you and if they didn't hang up properly then you couldn't make a call?

Also, it's nice to see a young Alan Partridge presenting Internet videos in a suitably bland grey hoodie.

Last night I watched this documentary on the Spanish comic artists that made a big impact on the industry in the '70s. One of these was Javier Blazquez. I was saddened to hear he'd sunk into depression and alcoholism, ultimatley ending in suicide after becoming obsessed with the idea that Stephen Spielberg had ripped off his character "Melvin" for the movie "E.T."

Have to admit there is a similarity..

Probably been discussed here before, but sound mix on some films, seems tad off. Dialogue is fairly quiet, but the music is maxed out. Anyone else notic this? is it 'cos sound on modern tv are so much sharper than on old tv's?

Sometimes TV channels play the 5.1 mix of a film rather than a stereo mix, meaning the balance is all wrong if you don't have a 5.1 system.

Yeah, I believe the technical reason for this is that some of the people doing sound mixing and editing (especially in Hollywood) are actually completely fucking shit at their jobs. It's become very noticeable over the last couple of years.

CHANCE FOR YOUNG FILM FANS TO BE ON THE CINEMAGIC DUBLIN

JURY PANEL

TO CHOOSE THE WINNING FILMS AT THE 10TH ANNUAL CINEMAGIC FESTIVAL!

Ever wondered during this film awards season what it would be like to participate on a film jury and decide who wins? Well now you can. The Dublin Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People is back for its 10th edition and is recruiting film critic jury panels of 8-18 year olds from all over Ireland and Northern Ireland to watch and judge a series of films from around the world during the Festival this May.

The jury will meet in Cineworld Cinemas Parnell Street where they will enjoy a feast of film, learn how to review and critique, and choose the winning films of the weekend. Meet other young film fans with a passion for film and learn about the role of the film critic.

Chris Shaw, Cinemagic Festival Programmer said “We are very much looking forward to our 10th Festival programme in Dublin. The young film critics’ jury offers film fans the chance to meet others with a similar passion, to discuss and debate, whilst expanding their understanding of the different genres of film. The critics, who are our future cinema-supporting audiences, will choose the winning films of the festival, so there is a significant and important task for the young people to undertake!”

The juries are divided into three age groups and will meet from 10am-3pm each day:

8-11 year olds attend the CineSeekers Jury on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th May

12-14 year olds attend the CineFocus Jury on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May

15-18 year olds attend the CineFocus Jury on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May

As well as the weekend panels, the jury are invited to the festival’s gala opening night on 5th May to officially open the programme and get stuck into their role as film critics!

To register to be part of a weekend of film fun just download a Dublin registration form from www.cinemagic.ie and return to Cinemagic, (Belfast admin address: 49 Botanic Ave, Belfast BT7 1JL) or email [email protected] by 28th April.

The cost to participate is €10.00 per person payable once registered to confirm a place. The places are allocated on a first come first served basis. The jury weekends are a cross-border initiative.

The Dublin Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People takes place from 5th-14th May and includes an exciting array of new film screenings, workshops and masterclasses for young people aged 4-25. The full programme for the 2017 Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Cinemagic Dublin Festival is funded by the Department of Education and Skills and The Nido Collection.

Earth people going to another planet and encountering a medieval civilisation. B&w, long, full of disgusting violence. It sounds so amazing I just ordered the DVD.
