those orchestral albums she brought out recently are pretty dreadful.

Travelogue has finally clicked with me. On Friday night with a couple of beers.

Been playing a lot of post 1980 Joni lately. Best introduction is through the compilation, The Beginning Of Survival. Most of the material is far less immediate than the 1970s stuff but there's loads going on too. Night Ride Home is a great album.

I wonder what her new record will be like.

hissing of summer lawns is awesome - one of those albums i listened to overandoverandoverandover again when i got it first.

Impossible to pick just one. I could make a stab at a top 5:

1. Hissing
2. Hejira
3. Blue
4. Seagull
5. Ladies

Shit, then I'm leaving out the ones I also love. :(

hmm...
ladies of the Canyon has Willy on it.
Blue is, well, Blue.
i read a book on Court and Spark recently that tricked me into believing that that was her best album.
For the Roses has Sometimes on it.

i voted Blue in the end.

its coming out on Hear Music - that stupid starbucks label

http://www.jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=1666

I heard that.

Joni, hast thou forsaken us?

Seriously, for someone who went into hiding partly because of the nasty, exploitive, art-ruining music industry, I'm kind of surprised she'd get into bed with Starbucks, who also fucking published a fucking book by that FUCKING guy who wrote....oh god....Oh, what was it called? Oh yeah, For One More Day, worst shite since fucking Paolo Coehlo's last torrent of loose inspirational stools.

Joni! Joni! Don't do it!

Thing is, though, Joni is still always going to be Joni, and thank god for that.

she re-recorded Big Yellow Taxi for it too, in a sort of "this song is now more relevant then ever" way... but I didn't realise it was on Starbucks... though I'm stumped as to why Starbucks is any better or worse then any other record label really...

Right after I posted that last thing, I found out I'm reviewing the new album. I'll let yiz know. I'm a-scared, to be honest. I generally avoid anything from 1980 onward, and I'm nervous that it will just be 250 words of sobbing.

I've spent the last nine months listening to all post-1980 Joni and it mostly gets the .|..|

will post highlights later.

Actually, please do because I'd like to find out how to navigate it so I can avoid the dross and go straight for the good stuff.
