I have a Dell/Alienware XPS 8300 machine. 12GB RAM, upgradeable to 16GB. I need to go up to 16GB to run the latest pro tools, but I'm wondering if I forked out for more memory would it work? Dell says max 16GB, but these guys here seem to be running it with 32GB and it's fine

Don't wanna waste my money buying RAM I can't use, and an IT guy from my old job says to stick to 16GB. Any advice? @pete ?

I think the advice from Scrotos & his comment on “not supported” vs “but it actually works” there makes sense.

I had that i7-2600k for years. Excellent CPU.

Oh and go 32gb if you can. Use something like CPU-Z (or the dell product code that should be somewhere on the back of the case) to check the exact motherboard spec, rather than the Dell model number.

And sure while we’re at it have you put an ssd in it? A life changing <€30 upgrade these days.
