I notice none of their staff have any experience in manufacturing... Still, this is good to see. Hopefully it’s a success and leads to some cheaper vinyl here.

Can't imagine there's a large pool of vinyl manufacturing engineers in Ireland given the lack of plants. Cautiously excited to see what comes of it.

Yes they're looking to hire the people to make the records which means they don't have anyone to make the records yet. That's what I'm cautious about. Obviously I hope they find them and wish them every success. Be great to have a working plant here, last attempt doesn't seem to have faired very well.

So they are actually gonna press the records Here and aren't just a vendor? That's cool.

I hope the pricing is decent. I'd also hope that being in Ireland, they do small runs.

Dublin Vinyl get set to give records another spin
Irish company to open new record pressing plant in Glasnevin as it brings funding raised to €1m

Let’s go round again: Donagh Molloy, operations managerand Hugh Scully, founder and managing director of Dublin Vinyl

Dublin Vinyl, a company that has so far raised €550,000 in funding for a new record-pressing plant in the capital, will begin full production in the middle of January.

The company is opening for business shortly with its first pressing set to be The Joshua Tree – New Roots, a charity album of covers of U2 songs from artists such as Kodaline, Imelda May and the Strypes.

The brainchild of Hugh Scully, a PR and marketing professional who runs the Coppa Cafe in the RHA Gallery and established the Interlude festival at the venue, Dublin Vinyl has set up a record-pressing facility in a warehouse in Glasnevin and sourced two WarmTone machines from Toronto.

Dublin Vinyl raised initial funds for the development of the facility and to purchase the pressing machines through private investment and a grant from the Local Enterprise Office.

Further expansion is being funded through the EIIS tax relief investment scheme, with the company looking to secure an additional €450,000 to bring the total raised to about €1 million.

Bottleneck

Dublin Vinyl begins full production with a 100,000 monthly record-pressing capacity from mid-January. Mr Scully said a six-month bottleneck in global vinyl-pressing lead times currently exists.

His company aims to reduce the lead times and to keep full control over a high-quality product by becoming one of the few pressing plants in the world to bring all elements of manufacturing process in-house.

“Sales of vinyl are expected to be their highest in 30 years by the end of 2017 and are showing no signs of slowing as labels and artists at every level of success press records appealing to all ages and musical tastes,” Mr Scully said.

“We are excited about the growth potential for the business and have secured business domestically and from a range of international markets including the UK, Germany, Holland, Canada and as far away as Australia and South America. ”

Ireland’s Record Pressing Plant, ‘Dublin Vinyl’ Announce

Direct to Fan Service for Labels & Artists

With vinyl sales at their highest in almost 30 years, Ireland’s state of the art pressing plant announces its Direct to Fan service for Independent Labels & Artists. The plant now offers a complete solution from vinyl manufacturing right through to fulfilment. The service accepts orders directly from the artist or label’s e-commerce site and ships them directly to the fan.

With fulfilment centres in both Dublin & Belfast, it is ideally positioned to ship directly into the UK and across Europe at very competitive rates. The service is compatible with a majority of e-commerce platforms including Bandcamp, Shopify, Woocommerce and Big Cartel.

“We’re always looking for new ways to help our clients and make the vinyl process as easy and cost-effective as possible,” says Dublin Vinyl Managing Director, Hugh Scully. “Getting your album pressed is one thing, but the distribution and fulfilment of orders is a huge amount of work and can be extremely costly. Our new service enables artists and labels to focus on the music and marketing, while we look after everything else.”

“Our system seamlessly fulfils orders directly from the artist and label’s online stores,” says Donagh Molloy, Director, Client Services. “We manufacture, warehouse, pick ‘n’ pack and ship directly to our clients’ customers, reducing costs, lead times and increasing their margins.”

Dublin Vinyl’s new D2C service is now available and the company is offering free warehousing for up to 6-months with all new vinyl pressing orders.

PRESS RELEASE

Dublin - 16 July 2019

For a Limited Time, Vinyl Fans Have the Opportunity to Own a Share of a Record Pressing Plant

As part of its latest fundraising drive, Ireland’s only Record Pressing Plant, Dublin Vinyl, is making some shares available on the equity crowdfunding platform, Seedrs. Once registered on the platform, investors can also benefit from rewards including limited edition vinyl, complimentary membership to the plant’s Record Subscription Club LovesVinyl.com, and even turntables and speakers.

“We’ve been speaking to the team at Seedrs since the early days and always wanted to run a campaign on it as it enables all types of investors to invest as little or as much as they like in businesses they believe in and share in their success.” says co-founder and CEO, Hugh Scully.

With sales at their highest in 30 years, Dublin Vinyl is setting its sights even further afield with plans to expand into North America and Japan. The plant began manufacturing vinyl for the music industry in January 2018 and is already working with some of the world’s biggest independent and major record labels.

“Within a couple of months of launching, we experienced significant demand from vinyl fans to buy albums directly from the plant”, says Scully. “In response to this, we expanded our label partnerships and our Record Subscription Club, LovesVinyl.com was born. Each month we ship essential albums directly to our members across the UK and Ireland and it’s growing very quickly.”

This fundraising round will see Dublin Vinyl increase its manufacturing capacity at its Dublin plant and expand its Direct to Consumer services into North America and Japan. The company is also a client of Enterprise Ireland’s High Potential Startup (HPSU) program which is supporting the development of the business.

Seedrs is the leading European equity crowdfunding platform. The Dublin Vinyl campaign is currently in pre-registration and goes public on Seedrs.com on Fri. 19 July.
