right guys, the debate is over.

I was reading a biog of Elizabeth I earlier and in it is a mention of the Stone of Scone. WELL now, it's not the Stonn of Sconn now is it? It's the Stone of Scone. PROOF.

So scone wins, yay!

the placename's pronounced 'scoon', though.

I pronounce it sconn especially on the rare occasions i'm motivated enough to bake my own.

S-C-O-N-E....Sconn.

This thread should not be about linguistic quibbling (omg XTreme assonance alert)
It should be about deliciousness.

there also seems to be some sort of north/south divide over this. Being from the bog, I've always prounounced it 'scone'. Then I move to belfast and they tell me that the way posh people up here say it... and I should be using scon.
I would have thought scon was the posh way.

dialects eh! you couldn't be up to them....

This is true. It even extends to Leitrim. I have a mate there who reckons Scone is ultra posh. I grew up in Raheny/ Kilbarreck and there is no way we would have lived if we called then Scons.

I like them with blueberry jam and a cup of tea.
My Kilbarreck days are behind me I guess...
