Inspired by @Lili Marlene’s mentioning of the Britpop beat (aka The Flying Lizard’s “Money” beat), what other distinctive drum beats pop up a lot within genres? The other obvious ones I can think of is the Motorik beat in krautrock (exemplified by Neu!’s Michael Rother) and the double kick drum of heavy metal.

jungle, hip hop etc are dominated by classic funk breaks. don't know if that's what you're looking for but was the first thing that came to mind when i thought about characteristic drum beats of musical genres

While that is an amazing piece of music surely Mo Tucker should be given the credit for the beat

Surely you'd post an example. Not that I disagree with you mind. Something I love with this one is that it starts on the snare rather than the kick. Is there Mo beats that do that?

Ha, i started to look and couldn't quite find that beat. So i gave up (after two songs)... Turns out Mo may not have reduced it to the absolute Faustian minimum
