Coronavirus: Better Call Sol - CORONAMANIA (5 Viewers)

Can someone explain the thinking behind making people buy a meal with their drinks in Irish pubs? I just don't get it!
I think it's just to control behaviour. People will tend to have their meal and leave within the required time, instead of skulling pints and becoming unpredictable in their behaviour.

I think there's also an element of there are very few places to eat in certain parts of the country if you close all pubs. So they had to make this distinction. It's shit though, gastropubs are all well and good but the vast majority of establishments that people hold close to their hearts don't fall into this category and are thus in risk of going under.

I hear of local placesdoing
- one place give you a receipt for 9 euro for food, then you get 2 pints instead. Although considering the cleanliness of the place, it might be better that way
- another leaves dirty plates and receipt on your table in case gardai come.

Other places just give you the takeaway menu for the nearest takeaway or leave a bag of chips on your table

I guess if you are having food, you are just staying on the group you came in. If you are drinking, you circulate more and have fun with others.

Yeah but all that carry on of people mixing, lashing pints, getting rowdy has not happening here and the pubs have been open for months. At least in my experience.

Honestly leaving dirty plates on customers tables is pretty rancid and I wouldn’t be frequenting any pubs that did that...

In a town of 5,000 or so, so it may be a little bit different when it comes yo socialising and mixing in bars

Although haven't been in a pub, restaurantor bar of any sort in 8 months (I am not a big pub goer)

Throw that up on the 'I hate this guy' thread too

its disappointing when your musical heroes turn out to be mad.

Brown was always a scumbag though, so that doesn't apply in this case.

As good a place as any to put this. Depressingly true:

"That now looks like a very bad investment"

Eh no, it doesn't NOW look like it, it looked like it years ago whenever property developers started proposing it, and anyone that isn't FFG could see it.
