yo - anyone can recommend a decent biography of james connolly? ideally something that threads the line between hero courageous/christian brother and revisionist takes? Ive leafed through the '16 lives' one and it seems to tend very much towards the former...
any other books on the early irish labour/socialist movements either would get a ta.. @Unclealo ?
filling a few gaps on the bookshelf!

I read A Labour History of Ireland by Emmet O'Connor as recommended by @jane

Most of the time, the workers caved when their wage demands were met, or they reached a compromise with their employers. If you read Emmet O'Connor's Labour History of Ireland or Labour History of Waterford, you'll learn a fair bit.

I think it was hard to keep up with all the characters and the similarly named factions. It was good though, full of info.

I'm keeping an eye out for Reds and the Green: Ireland, Russia, and the Communist Internationals, 1919-43 by the same author but I'm waiting to find a copy priced for the working man's market,

Was in the library earlier and picked up 'The Social Teachings of James Connolly', not what you're looking for* but the bibliography has-
The Mind of an Activist by Owen Dudley Edwards
James Connolly by Samuel Levenson
Young Connolly by Sean Cronin
James Connolly by Ruth Dudley Edwards
James Connolly: A Political Biography by Austen Morgan

You may find something useful in that lot.

*I'm still only on the introduction but its an interesting read thus far. It was written in 1920 by Lambert McKenna SJ, an interesting character in his own right who thought that Connolly didn't go far enough in his wishes for a cooperative republic. Worth picking up if you come across it.

Same here, the cheapest I've seen it for yet is €35 and the library copy seems to have gone missing.

I ordered it on interlibrary loan the other day

'James Connolly: A Full Life' by Donal Nevin? I've only flicked through this (it's huge), but it seems to focus on Connolly the trade unionist and his leftist milieu, rather than Connolly the republican hero.
