The original version of classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York is not banned at the BBC
BBC Radio 1 will play an edited version of Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl this year, while Radio 2 will continue to play the original version of the song. BBC 6 Music DJs and regional stations are free to play either version. The edited version of the song has been provided by the record company and replaces a word considered a homophobic slur with an alternative taken from a live performance by MacColl recorded before her death.
I read earlier that Kirsty McCall was the first to sing that censored line on a 90s Top of the Pops. I was happier hating Rónan Keating for it.You scumbag you maggot
