Anyone going to this next week?
http://www.carlsbergcomedy.com/
Went to one of them last year. Really nice set up I thought. Iveagh Gardens was perfect for it.
It seems to be largely the usual suspects, though all in the same place at the same time, which is handy. But the most notable thing for me, and the most annoying that I'm not in the country to see, is Hans Teeuwen's first visit to Ireland. Saw him last year in London, and he's absolutely superb. The best new comedian I'd seen in years.
He's only recently started performing in English, but he's an incredibly good performer, mixing pointed social and political stuff with complete off the wall absurdism. He's also probably the best physical comedian I've seen, and great with the oul musical stuff as well. The sight of him singing Knights in White Satin while his sock puppet mashed an entire mars bar in its 'mouth' reduced me to gasping hysterics.
He's most famous in Holland for two things: "Nostradamus", his signature nonsense song, which annoyingly has disappeared from the internet in English form; and also his debates with Dutch Muslims after his friend, the director Theo van Gogh was murdered a few years ago by extremists. He's a really fascinating character. The seriousness of a lot of his work is undercut by his absurd clownish stage persona.
Anyway, there's an almost full show of him on yer youtubes. I heartily endorse this product or service.
