Dates and venue announced for Choice Music Prize
The key dates and venue for the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year and Irish Song of the Year awards have been announced - the annual big day in the Irish music calendar takes place in Dublin's Vicar Street on March 8, 2018.

The always much debated shortlist for Irish Album of the Year 2017 will be revealed on January 10, 2018, with the Irish Song of the Year 2017 shortlist following on January 31.

Now in its 13th year, the Choice Music Prize celebrates and acknowledges the best in Irish recorded music from the past year. The Irish Album of the Year is chosen from a shortlist of ten releases by a panel of twelve Irish "music media professionals and industry experts".

2017 Album list: 2017 Album List | Choice Music Prize

Prediction inclusions in the top ten:

Emma Langford – Quiet Giant
Lankum – Beneath The Earth And Sky
The Jimmy Cake – Tough Love
Candice Gordon – Garden of Beasts
Columbia Mills – A Safe Distance to Watch
Slow Place Like Home – When I See You…Ice – Cream!
New Jackson – From Night To Night

+1 mind numbing pop/bimm record
+1 exceptionally millenial / outspoken thing
+ 1 either u2 or the script

3/5 albums i've made fall outside the criteria, not that i'd be a top ten type person but i think its interesting in the philosophical sense of what is a body of work that lives together and what is 9 songs or over 25 mins.

Gotta be about 200 albums missing off that list.

maybe they weren't arsed paying the entry fee? What is it, 100 lids?

Its actually free

That list is sorta like a preliminary 'we noticed/remembered these ones' thing.
Any band can just email to be added on, but i'm not sure all 10 judges are gonna run out and listen to a record just because its on the list.

pretty sure i did some math before on how many hours it'd take to listen to all of them and it was a lot.

that Percolator album is great

so is that Cormac Begley one.

I have only heard a very small few off the list but I'm guessing Lankum would be worth a tenner ftw

Ships scoop top prize at RTÉ Choice Music Awards

Electronic duo Ships picked up the Choice Music Price for Irish Album of the Year 2017 for their debut album Precession after the 10 shortlisted nominees performed at a special event in Dublin's Vicar Street last night (March 9).

Speaking on the night vocalist Sorca McGrath said: "We didn’t expect to be even noticed – and definitely didn’t expect to be here."

Alongside the specially comissioned trophy the group picked up a handsome cheque for €10,000 which was funded by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA).

Pop trio Chasing Abbey, who hail from Tullamore, scooped the Song of the Year award for their hit That Good Thing. It comes as no surprise as the catchy tune is a radio favourite and has notched up over 1 million plays on Spotify.
