Roger Doyle posted something very recently about paying to boost a post. The estimated reach was large according to facebook but that did not translate to any noticeable change on the sales/steams of the new release he was advertising.

i've had FB posts before with a reach of 1, but with 2 likes according to facebook, so I take their stats with a large grain of salt
