A top tip if you're the kind of wanker (like me!) that buys your bread in a bakery.
In this heightened sandwich season, I always get them to slice my loaf lengthways. It makes for far more efficient sandwich making.
They'll be a bit "I don't know if we can do that"
You'll be all "But you guys always do that for me here"

A lengthways sliced loaf is a thing of ruthlessly efficient beauty.

This thread has inspired me to pop a loaf on myself.

In 3 hours I'll be covered in butter and breadcrumbs

Aldi have great strong wholemeal flour at the min

Right, you're not making three sandwiches, but one big one.
One swoop of the butter knife and mayo. Lash everything else on there with no worries about apportioning how much to each individual slice anymore. It all goes on. Then you chop it up as you see fit, depending upon how many kids or guests you have.

Were I to visually represent this, the old multiple slices method would be done in black & white and the lenghtways method in vivid colour with smiles all round.

It's also that moment before the counter guy flicks the switch on the bread slicer, his final 'this is on you, pal' glance back at me, where I nod back in solemn reassurance and he thinks I'm a bit of a dopey prick.

Ask him over to the gaff for sandwhiches.

Make a montage of it and post it here.
