Blonde on Blonde is best but side three of that is also pretty weak, IMO.

In fairness, that's the fault of Temporary Like Achilles and Obviously 5 Believers.

These three side 3 songs are all great.
  1. Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)
  2. Absolutely Sweet Marie
  3. 4th Time Around
Giving Sad Eye Lady of the Lowlands a side of it own was amusing, but they could have just left off Temporary', Obviously' and Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat.

Bringing it All Back Home is harder to call side-wise.
Side one has She Belongs to Me and Love Minus Zero - two of my favourite Bob tacks
Side two has Mr Tambourine Man - another one of my favourites.

We need a Chronicles 2 - with more focus on these albums...

Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat is great. I love Dylan's lead guitar on it. It's all over the place.

i had an argument with a colleague about this recently - i think there is no other track which has suffered so much from over-exposure; it's a phenomenal song rendered ordinary to most people by over familiarity.

Oddly enough, I used to think the same, and then one nice summer night I was on a walk, listening to it on headphones, and it sounded amazing -the lyrics, the delivery, the beautiful accompaniment. All those great lines..

my weariness amazes me........ the haunted frightened trees...etc

I know what you mean, but from that night, I got over the over-exposure aspect. I still even love the Byrds version when it crops up.

Blowin' In the Wind and The Times They Are a Changin' though. Those ones are dead to me now.

The Basement Tapes Complete is on the way on Nov 4th. I've heard great things in the past about this.

In June 1968, a Rolling Stone cover story written by magazine founder Jann Wenner ran with the headline “Dylan’s Basement Tape Should Be Released.” The songs in question were a baker’s dozen of rough cuts recorded in Bob Dylan’s upstate New York home with the band that would come to be known as the Band, but these 13 cuts were just a fraction of the 138 tracks recorded during that spring of 1967. Now, nearly a half century later, Dylan has announced that the recordings will be released in their entirety on Nov. 4 on The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11.

Many of the songs trickled out during the late 1960s and the 1970s, but a great number of them never made it onto official albums. A handful appeared on the 1969 bootleg album Great White Wonder, another two dozen on 1975’s The Basement Tapes, and bootleg versions of others have circulated among fans for years. The Basement Tapes Complete will include remastered versions of familiar tracks like “Tears of Rage” and “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” as well as 30 songs that Rolling Stone sayseven fanatical Dylan fans never knew existed.”

Some of the excitement surrounding the forthcoming release stems from the creative place from which these recordings sprang forth. Dylan and the Band didn’t have specific plans to release an album from the material they were creating, and many of the songs were taped as demos for other artists to record. (And they did: Manfred Mann recorded “Quinn the Eskimo,” for example, and Peter, Paul and Mary released “Too Much of Nothing.”) Guitarist Robbie Robertson spoke of the “absolute freedom” that characterized the sessions, joking that they thought about destroying some of the tapes, Watergate-style.

Luckily they destroyed neither the recordings nor the lyrics—not only for the sake of The Basement Tapes Complete, but also for the forthcoming T Bone Burnett-produced collection of music based on Dylan lyrics from around the same time. As a taste of what’s to come, here’s an alternate version of “Odds and Ends,” via Rolling Stone, followed by the original version.

I got Tangled Up In Blue which was my favourite Dylan song for years. These days it's probably Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You

What Bob Dylan Song Are You?

"Tangled Up In Blue - One of Bob's best compositions! You're probably more of an introvert and you like to watch people. You're observant and you smart. You enjoy learning things and you see things in an artistic way. You're probably a little old-fashioned in ways and you're easily hurt, but you don't usually wallow in it -- you like to write and create things that express your emotions!"
