Do you guys have a go-to system or video for taking these things off, because it drives me crackers every single time

I never know which one is clockwise and which one isn't

right is right, as in the correct/regular way to unscrew. left is not.

Flip the bike upsidedown (on the saddle and bars)

stand at the end of the bike that the bars are at.

to loosen both pedals, pull towards you (with either a pedal allen key or a wrench)

yeah. The way I remembered it was when you're building bikes, you put the pedal on, put a pedal spanner on, and then back pedal the thing tight on both sides.

As in, to tighten them you're spinning the pedals backwards and not driving the bike forwards, on both sides.
To loosen them you do the opposite, ie you're turning the bolt in the direction that engages the back wheel.

I'm not sure that's the easiest, that's just how I did it. @magicbastarder 's way "turn it right" is probably easier now that I'm thinking about it.
