BELA EMERSON + LIANNE HALL + GUESTS, 11th OCT, SPAILPIN FANACH

Not to be missed!!!

As those who saw her at last Aprils Ladyfest can testify!

'Excellent: layers of gorgeous, mesmerizing, rumbling hooks'

Mark Russell, Mixing It, BBC Radio 3

Combining electric cello with loops and effects, Bela Emerson strives constantly to explore the potential and extend the boundaries of the instrument's place in contemporary music.

Bela's performances are the stuff of legend: spontaneous, intense, and exhilarating. Her command of her instrument and ability to attune to the uniqueness of the moment combine to produce music that is remarkably different and always spellbinding.

Bela is a prolific and well-travelled performer who tours extensively in the UK, Europe, and North America (previous split-bills include Men Diamler, Same Actor (Wrong Music), Monster Bobby, Music for One), and has shared bills with Juana Molina, A Silver Mount Zion, & Bat For Lashes amongst many others. She has also played solo at many festivals, including Supersonic, Glastonbury, Bestival, Shambala, Brighton, and six worldwide Ladyfests, (including Ladyfest Cork where she bought the house down!); and collaborating with Tim Exile at Aldeburgh (Faster than Sound). Her studio & live collaborations include four John Peel Radio 1 sessions (with Pico), and recordings with British Sea Power, The LoveGods, and Caramel Jack. She also tours worldwide with percussion company Stomp.

Bela’s latest studio album, Hespera, is to be released on BiP_HOp in September ’08. She has previously released three CDs and a 7” single (vinyl), on Drama Queen, Quiet Records, and The Slightly Off-Kilter Label, receiving extensive radio play on BBC Radio 3's 'Mixing It', Resonance FM, & Totally Radio, plus regional & online broadcasts (including live webcasts eg: Second Life). Recorded collaborations have been released on Gruenrekorder, Net-Lab, and upcoming on Beta-lactam Ring Records (with Strings of Consciousness).

'If anyone really does live by those Things To Do Before You Die lists, slot 'see Bela Emerson live' somewhere into the top 50'

Julian Owen, Venue magazine

'A more captivating, physical performance you are not likely to see'

Brighton Source

'Emerson's phrases are so concrete, so well-formed - they leap out at you like gigantic death-dealing spiders'

Ed Pinsent, The Sound Projector

Bela will be joined on this tour by Lianne Hall

Lianne uses electric guitar, casio keyboard and loop pedal to create unique arrangements for her enchanting songs and exquisite voice.

"One of the great English voices" John Peel, Radio 1, 2003

"An absolutely stunning session" Huw Stevens, Radio 1, 2006

“On Paul 'Orbital' Hartnoll's new solo album, Lianne Hall takes the place usually taken by Alison Goldfrapp to provide vocals shimmering somewhere between Imogen Heap and the ethereal cooings of Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins)" Andy Petch-Jex, musicohm.com, 2007

Lianne Hall is a performer "with a voice and style which sounds immediately familiar in its gentle warmth. While her sound may be largely country-esque and folk-inspired, her soul is definitely built on a punk rock foundation" Local Kid Records 2006
