ahm not that into paintin's per se, being far more interested in the worlds of product/furniture/industrial design. And in my correct opinion, nice tings are most certainly pieces of usable art.

here be a few of my favourite things:

Lucienne Day textiles

not a one designed after about 1960.

Love the lovely Alvar Aalto. Love all them mid century modern design dudes. They took such a nice holistic approach to design and really got involved with how people lived - architecture, furniture, storage, textiles. Lovely.

The Saarinen table - a proper repro will be mine. Oh yes. Currently I make do with this:

Funny how painting has become the poor relation in the visual art world ...

Here are two pictures that I saw a zillion times in books and shit but never paid much attention, but that absolutely knocked my socks off when I saw them in the flesh

I've really got into portraiture of one sort or another lately.

I tend to spend one lunch break a week in the National gallery, and spend about an hour in maybe two or three rooms. I'm all about the two Spanish rooms this week.

I don't really appreciate them on the level of technique. It's more that i realise how deliberate all the choices that a portrait artist makes. Choice of what or whom to paint (aside from commissions); how to depict them. You realise that the paintings are pregnant with all sorts of tit bits about the person and that if you pay attention, the painter tells you quite a lot. It's particular true of religious paintings, which I know are not to everyone's taste.

I think if it has taught me anything about my own approach to music, is that quite often what marks out a great artist is their choice of subject, as much as their treatment of it.

Shitepipe: I am extremely jealous.

In honour of Mr Profumo, who died yesterday:
