and when live is a slave to pro tools is there anyway of
recording a line direct to live and not into protools then exporting and sampling?

when Live is the slave to ProTools / Logic whatever, the soundcard setting is fixed to REWIRE, meaning you can only record into ProTools and not Live. you should be able to record the REWIRE channel on ProTools, saving you bouncing .wavs out in Live.

i dunno. does the mbox not show up in ableton preferences under the audio tab? if not, prob not.
