A few more I like that haven't been mentioned yet:
  • 99% Invisible - about design and the history of various design concepts / figures
  • Irish History Podcast - this lad is an Irish medieval history specialist and has a nice way of making it engaging
  • Skeptoid - a guy who researches and debunks various urban myths and mysteries
  • Comedy Bang Bang - Scott Aukerman and his comedian friends (mostly American) chat in a humorous fashion and are joined by various strange characters
  • The X Files Files - an episode-by-episode discussion of The X Files with Kumail Nanjiani from the show Silicon Valley and various guests
  • Stuff You Should Know - 2 guys talk research and discuss a particular topic each week.. charmingly ramshackle presentation

started listening to a new podcast by the makers of This American Life. Called Serial.

For folks that are into true crime and like the structure of the This American Life podcasts. 2 episodes released so far, have listened to one. really liked it. without giving anything away, about a teenage murder that took place in Maryland back in 1999. Boyfriend found guilty of killing girlfriend. Lot of loose ends/stones left unturned for a variety of reasons. apparently there are upwards of 10 episodes all dealing with that specific case.
anyone give this a go? 6 or 7 episodes in now. completely hooked. look forward to new episode every Thursday as much as I have for any TV show or whatever over the years. so bloody good

@7 - No tomorrow that podcast you recommended to me, the Grantland pop culture one, had a big interview with Alex Blumberg a few weeks back, did you listen to it? They went into great detail on the appeal of podcasts and stuff, was super interesting.
There's a bunch on there. The one I was talking about was Do You Like Prince Movies?
I've just checked and Blumberg was on The Moment. I'll get on it. Thanks.

Hollywood Prospectus is pretty good also on there.

Current favourite podcast is Song Exploder @GO; I think you might dig it. They don't always cover a song I like but listening to musicians talk about their process is interesting. Most recent one, about the books is great.

Mostly I just listen to football podcasts.

People finding out about Serial is rapidly becoming the same as people finding out about your favourite band.
Ha. I just listened to them all over the last few days. Then I listened to the Slate review of the podcast podcast. And then I looked it up on reddit and wished I'd been able to resist that urge :(

Wait, I should avoid the Slate thing?

There are spoilers?

I have my own issue with the show

Slate things are just reviews of the episodes with some people giving their own thoughts on the ethics of the show, theories etc.

The spoilers are for the episode but they also talk about what they think might happen in upcoming episodes.
