This may sound a bit thicko, but does anyone here have any background in playing African guitar or any of the many harps like the nyatiti? I've been listening to loads of stuff, Staff Benda Bilili and Ayub Ogada probably being the best known, and I can't get my head around the buzz.WOuld love to be able to recreate some of that stuff on a nylon string, say.
I'd love to sit down with someone who knew some of this stuff and have them show me things for money and plaudits. Anyone know anyone? I used to rehearse beside a church that played loads of gospel-y African stuff but was too stupid to think of doing anything but standing outside listening.
