Worth doing?

What's public transport like? Any recommendations for places to go/things to see?

Hollyhead or Fishguard?

Personally I'd be happy at the Rhyl Sun Centre for 3 days, but that's probably just me. There's lovely places up the north, Prestatyn, Llandudno etc., or Caernarfon down the other way, if you go to Holyhead. Lovely country, nice people.

what are you looking to do? camp/hike/coasteering/surf/drink in pubs/read books??

if you are into camping/walking go to either snowdonia, brecon beacons, St Davids, mumbles, pembrokshire etc.

little villages such as Hay on Wye are nice to visit

Wales has some shocking dumps of towns but is blessed with some amazing rural coastal areas.

My favourite beach is Rhossili Bay but there are pleanty of deadly beaches on the south Wales coast - don't know much about North Wales.

If you are going to fishguard st. Davids is near by and there are some nice beachy/camping areas around there.

we went camping in Devon and Cornwall last weekend and decided that there are way better places in Wales - if you can find them - less busy with tourists and just as scenic.

Just looking for a short (3-day or so) break somewhere reasonably pretty with plenty to do and see during the day and somewhere with good food and comfortable beds at night.

I think I'd be pushing it trying to convince himself to go camping for a second time in as many weeks.

Anyone know what Tenby is like these days? I remember going there as a child and it struck me as quite a pretty place.

Mumbles ftw Squiggle.Lovely spot altogether.Spent 2 weeks there last year.Had a great time.

I still need to to go to Wales. Of course, not with you and himself but some time soon. I need to check it off my list. I like the idea of camping so keep listing stuff people. I'm interested too.

Three Cliffs Bay is nice http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Cliffs_Bay

Guardian lists a place in Wales among top 10 beach campsite in world?? http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/may/24/top100beachholidays.camping - it's actually by rhossili bay that i mentioned below

Sarah - this is supposed to be a good place - it's kind of camping but it's a bit more than... http://www.coldatnight.co.uk/ http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2008/may/04/camping.hotels

there is also places like bluestone - http://www.bluestonewales.com/home_page.aspx - they are 5star log cabins/lodges.

Those both look really interesting, thanks Simon :)

Easy to get to without a car?

I would say yes.Its only about a 10mile bus ride from Swansea(which is a kip but Mumbles is lovely).
You'd be sure to get a bus to a deadly country beach on the Gower peninsula from there although theres a nice one a walk outta town.Theres also a magnificent cliff walk and promenade in Mumbles.
We went out for great food and everything there.

Honestly,we had a great time(me the mrs. and the chisling)

Has anyone noticed this thread is old skool style. Its much easier on the eyes than the new look.
