LEVERKUSEN 2-1 BAYERN
Both Leverkusen goals came after the ref booked the same player (twice) for diving and both times after viewing VAR recsinded the yellows and awarded him a penalty instead.

love the way Dutch sounds like swearing - a few seconds after Feyenoord score the winner it sounds like he's saying ''FUCKING'' @10:49.

Ireland were indeed very good against France - just need to start putting away the mediocre teams now.

Anyway back to club football... Virgin Media 2 are going to show Bohs v Rovers on Friday 7 April.

Bayern v Dortmund is on at 17:30 this Saturday...

What I thought was encouraging was that yes, they played a backs to the wall type of game on Monday, but the principles of play seemed transferable to playing against teams who haven't made 2 successive world cup finals and who Ireland might have the ball more against.

Forgot the mention the passing of Birger Jensen (1951 - 4 April 2023) a few days ago.
Danish keeper (19 caps) for Club Brugge (1974-88) who won four League titles in five years 1976-80 and another in 1988.
Jensen was runner up to Liverpool in the 1976 UEFA Cup and 1978 European Cup under the managment of the great Ernst Happel. Brugge had only won one League title until the 70's when they came to prominence similar to Bayern, 'Gladbach or Leeds.

Sergio Gori (1946 - 5 April 2023)
Gori played bit part roles in successful Inter and Juve sides in the 60s and 70s but was a key player in Cagliari's 1969-70 scudetto winning side in a six year spell there, usually as second striker supporting Riva.
He was only the second player to win Serie A with three different clubs.
Gori also played in Italy's 1970 World Cup QF win over Mexico, earning all three of his caps that year.

The Ireland women were surprisingly half-decent against the USA the other day. Their counterattacks actually looked dangerous for a change, rather than just booting the ball blindly out of defence. Still got bate 2-0 though. They play match 2 tonight.

yeah watched it - Ireland not at all out of their depth and unlucky to be 1-0 down at half time. Another big step forward.
Best football I've seen from them. Ireland don't do big defeats anyway but the whole team played well with very few panicky moments.
But the US are not the force they were.

match tonight just about to begin...

Aye switching it on now. Only bad thing about the last match was that it did deteriorate in the second half, so there's questions over stamina there, and as you say the US aren't the team they were. But it's very positive from Ireland, I was watching them pre-covid and they were utter shit, saw them get tanked about 5-0 by the Netherlands in Tallaght, they're a world away from that shit now I think.

See the yanks have O'Hara playing for them anyway

give away long distance goal for USA. Brosnan is normally much better than that.
at least it won't be summer in Australia. a better second half than last time would be great.

USA 1-0 Ireland.
not a great spectacle - both sides only had 2 shots on target each. USA didn't offer much at all - they really missed Lavelle.
Ireland need to hold onto the ball a bit better and cut out some mistakes but the two games have to be considered a big success.

This Aussie bloke has been making videos on stadiums in various leagues of various sports for years so he finally did a LOI one. Features Father Ted. Some of the images he used are by his own admission out of date

Eddie Colquhoun (1945 - 2023)
Sheffield United (1968-78) captain and Scotland international (11 caps) from the Blades 70's heyday.

Josep Maria Fuste (1941 - 20 April 2023)
Fuste played over 400 games for Barcelona (1960 -72) captaining them and winning a string of cups but also losing several European finals.
A goal scoring midfielder, Fuste won 8 caps (3 goals) and was involved the victorious 1964 Euros campaign and in the 1966 World Cup scored in his only appearance v West Germany.

The Gooners comedy show is in full swing.
Love listening to Gary Neville commentating on teams he's biased towards fucking it up.
Not sure what Karen Carney is doing in commentary box as she hardly says anything.
