2018 albums worth a listen..... (2 Viewers)

charnel ground lp on 12xu.

picked it up at the chris brokaw gig on wednesday. trio of cb, james mcnew and kid millions. starts off like rangda - cacophonous, loose, dense and noisy - but by track 3 takes a sharp turn into a 90-second, pacific-tinged, up-beat twang worthy of climax golden twins or even sun city girls, before another about turn into a clean, driving tune that wouldn't have been out of place on that great directions in music (bundy brown, doug scharin, james warden) one-off lp on thrill jockey. side two is a single track, maybe the most y.l.t. of the lot, but the unaffected, serpentine jams of early 90s y.l.t.

truly, unexpectedly, great lp bought on spec and all the more rewarding for it. might have to check out oneida now.

:( what's this now? I have been staying away from the new ones till the album dropped.
I got the complimentary download last night. I really disliked the two singles so far but they work better as part of the album as a whole. I'm trying to find positive things to say because I love their other stuff. There are some very good moments. I need to give it a few more spins but it's a drastic departure from what's gone before. Gary's Eurovision/Scorpions comment is spot on.

I commented elsewhere that the Danse Macabre song sounds like something you'd have head unironically on Miami Vice.

The lyrics, never the strongest point have taken a real nosedive too.

However, it's getting rave 5 -star reviews left right and centre. Thea are going to be massive.

Maybe I'll learn to love it.

I made this when I heard the latest single
