I have the Rega RP1 also. Lately when I turn it on there's a squealing nose as it starts turning. The noise disappears after a couple of seconds but I hope that doesn't mean the beginning of the end. Suppose, at least, it would be the cheapest part of the setup to replace.

nah turntables are gonna be way cheaper. I think my turntable was about 250. I got a deal on the pre-amp (Denon pma-2000-iv-r). It's great.

whatcha get? I've a rega rp1 turntable a denon something pre-amp and big fuck-off speakers by someone fancy. Got a cheapo tuner from richer sounds in belfast but it's perfect and plugged in an old Sony CD player. It takes up a fair whack of space but I love it.

ended up getting the full reel in Maplins. 20 squids for a lot of it so that wasn't too bad. have it all sorted now. I'll get a tuner next year when my finances eventually settle again. All I'll need then is to work on getting a good taste in music.
