i was wondering recently what category of ads are most divorced from the product they sell. perfume ads and car ads must be up there. but the notion of selling a perfume using the medium of video was never going to be easy.

ah here, english probably has the least predictable spelling vs pronunciation of any language. you're complaining about a word from a language which probably has much more consistently predictable pronunciation.

i work in a well regulated industry. just come out of an hour long, dull as dishwater audit meeting. that quote, in that context, is just bizarre. because it's the last place you'd be allowed do something you know you'd have to seek forgiveness for afterwards.

in our offices in germany they did a revamp and decided to stencil quotes on the wall; the one nearest where i'd have sat when i visited was an ayn rand one, along the lines of 'it's better to do and ask forgiveness, than to seek permission and be denied'. i did wonder was it one of the interior...
