Not even close, tbf. I think at one point about 50 years ago we came close to two deaths per day. It's about a third of that now.

yeah, i've seen videos that the benefits are not quite as people claim. one of the claims is that you are able to pull up on the upstroke, which you can't do on 'normal' pedals and you get to use some extra muscles doing so. i'm just so used to clip'less' pedals that normal ones feel a bit strange.

from what i've seen, how difficult hills are is calculated by raising the slope by a factor of 2.5. e.g. doubling the slope increases difficulty by a factor of more than 5.

One thing you learn while cycling is that it's often safest to position yourself so as you 'deliberately' block cars. Usually referred to as taking primary position or taking the lane. If you cycle in the gutter, motorists will pass you with no regard for you. If you take primary position, you...

if a motorist following behind intends to turn left, you're leaving space for them to get past on your inside. a motorist should *not* overtake a cyclist who has indicated their intention to turn right. as i said above, if JR had been driving a car, there wouldn't have been a word said.

disagree completely. if the motorist intends to take the same turn they should not be overtaking you in the process; that would increase the danger to the cyclist - so that's even more reason to stay right and control the junction.

a motorist turning right there would occupy that space (and more) in a car too anyway. he wouldn't have said boo to a motorist doing it.

if i was turning right there, this is where i'd be sitting, no issue with it at all.

you'd probably get a decent enough ten or fifteen year old aluminium framed bike; what will help drive the price down is the groupset, which won't have gearing as low as is popular these days - but that won't be much of an issue for you if you're doing a TT, you won't need gears to climb steep...
