What gig did you go to last night?

The GBV one was pre-recorded too. It does seem like a bit of a "cheat" for that reason but on the other hand it means it can be filmed/edited properly and the sound mixed properly afterwards too. There were little filmed inserts at various points as well. I mean it's really an entirely new...

Sleater-Kinney also. Thought they were great. I'm not nuts about the new album but it sounded briliant live. Like the 5 piece line-up. Gave the set a real variety. Better than last time.

I was in Tower yesterday afternoon and they were in there signing records. They looked pissed off.

What gig did you go to last night?

Wild Rocket and Creepy Future at Bloody Marys. Both bands were excellent and this seems like a pretty cool new venue. Sound was a bit boomy in parts but in general it sounded grand. All round good buzz for a Saturday night in the middle of Dublin town.

A Lazarus Soul in Whelans. Terrific gig.

What gig did you go to last night?

Bill Callahan in Vicar Street. Tremendous gig. Band were superb. Great set. New songs sound more engaging live than on record.

What gig did you go to last night?

Yeah but I'm not sure it's moving on, felt more like moving backwards. I could have been at a show in the mid-80s. Are they a BIMM band as well?

What gig did you go to last night?

I dunno. More the general vibe than a specific song. The singer is going for that slightly menacing and unhinged demeanor but now and then he gives a little smile when he catches the eye of one of his mates in the crowd and it sort of ruins it.

What gig did you go to last night?

Murder Capital in Workman's. Would be grand if you've never heard Joy Division or Whipping Boy. Singer is very pretty and they have all learned to do the smouldering staring thing to a tee. Middle Ages earlier who were predictably excellent.

What gig did you go to last night?

Yeah I'm probably getting Over And Over mixed up with Love And... Or some other song from Ragged Glory (which he always plays a lot of). I dunno... maybe I'm just nitpicking but he seems to settled into some staples and then the curveball are not the ones I'm interested in. Like A Hurricane...

What gig did you go to last night?

Hey everything after 1980 is new as far as I'm concerned! I suppose most of the unexpected songs he did were either ones I didn't know or don't care for much anyway. Like Piece Of Crap. But I'm sure I've heard him do Over And Over several times before.

What gig did you go to last night?

No. There was an old honky tonk piano on stage but it wasn't used. He possibly didn't do Mother Earth because he knew even that would not be long enough to get to the toilet and back.

What gig did you go to last night?

Missed most of Dylan so can't comment much. Arrived in just before a duet with Neil on The Circle Is Unbroken. Which was nice. An almost unrecognisable Like A Rolling Stone followed - which the crowd did their best to sing along to. Highlight was a beautiful version of Sick Of Love which, I...

What gig did you go to last night?

Neil Young was really good. Except for the annoying bass player, Promise Of The Real are an excellent backing band. He played some shit songs (some new ones I don't know, Hank To Hendrix), some predictable crowd pleasers (Old Man, Heart of Gold, Rocking Free World) and some amazing stuff it's...

What gig did you go to last night?

Dylan/Young at Nowlam Park. First off Nowlam Park is a complete kip. Whatever enjoyment might be had from the surroundings of Iveagh or Marlay - not happening here. You also can't really see the stage from many points on the pitch. Secondly - organisation was a fiasco. Walked all the way around...

What gig did you go to last night?

I was there too. I thought some of it was brilliant (basically when Mick Hanley was onstage) but some of the instrumental stuff got a bit tedious. Like, rock session musos playing trad. I found myself thinking that I'd prefer if this was just Lunny, Hanley and Spillane. When it was good, it was...

What gig did you go to last night?

Guided By Voices in London. Difficult to articulate how great this was. 600 GBV fanatics packed into one room. Band and Bob in flying form. Epic 2+ hour set. You get the picture.

Built To Spill, Shellac, Tim Hecker, Lizzo, Cupcake, Stereolab.

What gig did you go to last night?

Lots of good stuff last night. All a bit of a blur right now. But must give a shout-out to Amyl And The Sniffers. A more punk rock ACDC with a female Bon Scott. Incredibly good. Also Beak, Fucked Up, Janelle Monae, Swervedriver and a bit of Robyn.

What gig did you go to last night?

They were awesome. Indoors in the big auditorium. Fairly intense set. Bit like Body. Decent sized crowd. Sound was perfect.
