    Coffee

My favourite weekend morning routine, sadly parked for now (not toddler compatible) was hand grinding beans while the kettle boiled. It is totally worth it, beats pre-ground hands down.

Dunderhead, that really does sound like the pot isn't sealed properly. When threading I usually turn the wrong way till it drops into the threads and then tighten (hope that you can understand that) to avoid it not threading properly, and then tighten well. Also, make sure the rubber seal is...

Do you still use your cold coffee contraption?

    Coffee

What Thairock said. I used to buy beans and grind (cranked burr grinder, fully adjustable etc). It was my weekend morning ritual, grind coffee, brew coffee, drink coffee usually while smoking lovely cigarettes still in my pjs. I miss it, but a sadly Nespresso fits in with my available time a...

    Coffee

When we were in Chicago last year there was a Starbucks in the hotel, our source of morning caffine, but I stubbornly insisted on ordering a "small" and when the barista said "tall?" I looked at her like she had 5 heads, pointed at the small cup and said "No, SMALL - that one there". I know, I...

    Coffee

I don't think I should have to pay for extra shots to get a decent cup of coffee. And the sizing thing annoys me. Calling their small coffee a tall is daft, and leads to situations like this. http://notalwaysright.com/?s=large+beer

    Coffee

I'd take McDonalds coffee over Starmucks every time.

    Coffee

This is true, but for mornings like that I have the nespresso machine.

    Coffee

Hmmm, that sounds like a good plan, thanks Shaney. Must try to get up that way soon. I really can't drink instant coffee anymore. I'd sooner drink tea. My nespresso machine has me totally spoiled.

    Coffee

Hmmm, interesting. Must try that sometime. I usually avoid night-time coffee aside from special occasions.

    Coffee

Yes, and it stays up in the top section until the heat is removed from the bottom section.

    Coffee

Ah yeah, it wouldn't be an every day coffee maker - but for that special after-dinner coffee, or lazy weekend morning coffee - perfect.

    Coffee

It is largely reviewed as making the best coffee... because you can control brew time (something you can't do with a drip coffee maker) you can control the strength, the water goes on to the coffee at the optimum temperature so you get less bitterness but all the strength, and it is supposed to...

    Coffee

Warm water goes in the bottom part, ground coffee in the top. You light the little lamp below it, as the water heats it is pushed up into the top part to mix with the coffee... when you put out the lamp the brewed coffee is pulled back down into the bottom part through the filter and hey presto!

    Coffee

Did a bit more research and I absolutely love this one - japanese, apparently based on an old model by Cona.

    Coffee

Well, the coffee you use in an ibrik is very, very finely ground so what you get at the bottom of the cup is more like mud than grit. Like very thick coffee.

    Coffee

Hmmm... well, since you can't really drink the sediment I guess a clean cup isn't a bad thing. I suppose you could stir it all before pouring if you want the sediment - maybe. No updates on the vacuum pot. I did consider going into him and asking if he'd order one for me... but then I...

    Coffee

That coffee kiosk place in the Georges Street Arcade has an electric vacuum coffee maker... made by bodum... but it's plastic and resembles one of those conical food processors - yuck! Looks like the only way to get my hands on one of the Cona ones is over the internets, but all that glass!

    Coffee

I never buy instant coffee. But I do find sometimes when at other people's homes that it is the only coffee option.

    Coffee

Dreadful stuff! I think that Carte Noir is the best instant coffee.
