What movie did you watch last night?

Testament (1983) - Watched it before and didn't really get it but this time I found it devastating. Nuclear war drama set in a prosperous town somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area. Very understated and lovely performances, especially from the young cast. As horrific in its own quiet way as...

What movie did you watch last night?

The Name Of The Rose (1986) For some reason I expected this to be an arthouse movie but it was as mainstream as a detective tale set in a 14th century Italian monastery could be. I can see why it didn't set the world on fire at the time but I enjoyed it overall.

What movie did you watch last night?

Red Heat (1988) Remarkably charmless garbage. It felt like it might be amazing but both leads put in terrible performances and pyrotechnics aside the whole thing felt like a damp, dank squib. It was a success but apparently not as successfully as anticipated and at this remove it is easy to see...

What movie did you watch last night?

Despite myself I find myself watching Sicario 2: Soldado again. Awful, fascist tripe.

What movie did you watch last night?

Spider-Man:No Way Home Surprisingly good, packed an emotional heft I wasn't expecting.

What movie did you watch last night?

"Kiss me, me lad, fore we'll never meet again" shoots a bullet into my heart every single time.

What movie did you watch last night?

It's one of my favourite films. I would love to see it in an empty cinema.

What movie did you watch last night?

Miracle Mile. Still holds up. A supremely odd movie and the ending is just heartbreaking. Apparently it was batted around Hollywood for a decade before it was made. If it had have been made earlier in the '80s i suspect it would have made a bigger impact.

What movie did you watch last night?

AI: Artificial Intelligence. It was really good but wild sad.

What movie did you watch last night?

Space Jam is exactly the same pitch as every ad for broadband these last 5 years. I can't imagine what it must have been like having to sit through it in the cinema.

What movie did you watch last night?

Wonder Woman 1984: One of the worst films I've ever sat through the entirety of. Space Jam: A New Legacy: Remarkably likable for a movie length ad for itself, broadband internet and a subscription to whatever platform Warner currently favours. Far more enjoyable than Ready: Player One. It also...

What movie did you watch last night?

Spider-Man:Far From Home A load of cobblers. Surprisingly shit effects considering the budget but good energy and comedy from the young cast. The most outlandish aspect is that 16 yr old kids in 2019 would be impressed by drones.

What movie did you watch last night?

I recorded it off the telly. I must give it a watch one of these days.

What movie did you watch last night?

Sonora The Devil's Highway Mexican movie set during the Great Depression. Diverting enough and with some interesting historical details but fairly predictable. Some beautiful shots of the desert. The Ruthless Italian gangster movie set in Milan in 1970s and 1980s. Not amazing but decent...

What movie did you watch last night?

Ya no estoy aquí It's on Netflix and I have to say, I loved it. Insight into a Mexican subculture I wasn't aware of before and a meditation on the loneliness and dislocation of the emigrant. It's not perfect but well worth a watch. Main actor in it gives a class performance.

What movie did you watch last night?

BlacKkKlansman After the poxiness of Da 5 Bloods this was just great. Great acting, genuinely funny scenes, tension. Lee can be a bit too didactic at times but in this film he pitches it right. Harry Belafonte's scene in it is heartbreaking.

What movie did you watch last night?

Have lately watched: 1922 - not bad, and in some parts properly horrifying but not quite engaging enough to provide a proper chilling horror vibe. Worth watching if you like Thomas Jane's acting (which I do). Porco Rosso - Studio Ghibli joint that I'd somehow neglected to watch these last 25+...

What movie did you watch last night?

Silence Of The Lambs still kinda holds up but the other movies were such diminishing returns. Hopkins kinda destroyed his legacy going back after such a singularly terrifying performance for a couple of pay cheques.

What movie did you watch last night?

Hannibal (preposterous dreck) Red Dragon (ok but could have done with better hair stylist/wig technicians)
