    David Bowie - Low (1977)

I was thinking the same thing: Blur's 'For Tomorrow' sounds very much 'inspired' by 'Be My Wife'. (And I can't stand Blur, which probably informs my reaction to that song.)

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Here's my track by track take on Low after a couple more listens: Side A 'Speed of Life' - what a great opener, love that woozy synth bit especially 'Breaking Glass' - great tune, ends far too soon, they could have jammed it out for another minute and done a shorter fade out 'What In The...

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

This is great stuff. 'What, no cowbell?! Fuck it, I'll just hit this thing.'

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Which is my whole point - you can only comfortably fit, what, 20 minutes on a side of wax? Hence Bowie and band rush through 30+ minutes of material in 20. Every song I was like 'ahhh I was just getting into that, sake'.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Right, so, my impression after my first listen - it feels like two different records. David Bowie - Low (1977)

I HATE the vaudeville piano opening on 'Be My Wife'. And it's odd hearing him sing in his own accent. OK I'll hold off on the rest of my thoughts till I'm done with this first listen.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Yeah that's my feeling too, like they went 'ah that's enough, we need to make space for the next one'. The likes of 'Sound and Vision' deserve another couple of minutes to resolve properly, if you get me.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Fair enough, but his expression is anything but low, no minor-key dirges so far.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

The songs feel a little truncated, though, as if they had all these ideas they wanted to include, but couldn't get away with a double LP.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

Just getting a listen to this now through my computer speakers. I kinda like the blown-out drum sound so far. The title seems to be a misnomer, it's quite vibrant and driving on these first few tracks.

    David Bowie - Low (1977)

So this is opportune, since I just added Bowie's '70s albums as playlists in Spotify a week ago and I listened to Young Americans and Station to Station earlier today. Low comes next in the chronology anyway and I'm looking forward to it.
