    If not for the vocals, 'Vicar in a Tutu' sounds like it could've been on the Meat Puppets' Mirage album. I like Mirage a lot better, though.

    Second/third listen, on headphones this time. The drumming sounds punchier through my cans, I have to say. But the mix really favours the vocals, which is to be expected I suppose.

    I really get the feeling this is one of those 'you had to be there' records, whether it was being a fan of the band at the time it came out, or it was the soundtrack to formative experiences later on. I can't possibly judge it on those terms.

    There's room for that thin guitar sound in my life, but it is very much of its time. Nothing wrong with the basic jangles - this was a pop band after all, they were on Top of the Pops all the feckin' time. But I have to say it's only working for me on the faster tempo, more propulsive songs...

    Not in the same way - lyrics, for me, are completely secondary to the RIFFS. But yeah, it's all Tales from the Crypt imagery. Not meant to be taken seriously in the slightest. It's not poetry.
