    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

It's still unlistenable dickhead music but Pitchfork are reviewing them today https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/steely-dan-gaucho/

They're grand really, I'll probably be a fan in six months. Them and Kiss. Sure I used to think P-Funk was boring until I finally found a way in. And here, being like a sleazy uncle was posted as a positive thing!

I take your point about the cool weird uncle but when you get to 18 the uncle who lets you drink around his gaff seems less cool when he's jailed for following a schoolgirl home. Nah, Steely Dan are frustrated virgin music, good at a certain point in your life if you find them but I wasn't aware...

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

I like stadium rock big pop songs Queen , i've never properly gotten into their other stuff. I understand why some people hate them, I don't even disagree with their reasons, they're kind of just a bit of fun to me. I haven't even bothered watching the film. I think Freddie brings a bit of life...

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

Here, Bernard Purdie is great, lets not belittle his life accomplishments by saying he's in any way to blame for Steely Dan. Steely Dan are basically the template for Ween, who in turn are the template for the Smith Westerns and Foxygen, who in turn are the template for The Lemon Twigs. That's...

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

The only King Crimson I know is 80's King Crimson. I quite like Discipline although it's just Remain in Light played more complicated with zero good songs.

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

It's the very early 70's and the Beatles have split and you want to form a band right? You want to take this pop thing seriously but also lean towards artiness and humour and good musicianship because you're a clever fella. You want great singles because you love pop music but you also want...

Vienna? I meant the Stranger. also this is quite a read, there can't be anything worse than a Steely Dan fan indignantly gushing about one of their albums: Leave Alexa Alone

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

3 Listens. I like Time Out of Mind a lot and there are some very musical nice details here and there throughout in the album. Otherwise it's all shameful smooth jazz rock garbage. 1/5 You'd be better off listening to Vienna by Billy Joel if you want this kinda thing.

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

On my second listen. The title track is laugh out loud bad both musically and lyrically, although I do like how, as prefuse pointed out, it's a bit like a sitcom theme. That jazzy little resolve is hilarious.

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

God this is awful. It's like Billy Joel without all the things that make him bearable. edit: oh, Time Out of Mind is pretty good.

    Steely Dan - Gaucho (1980)

Right so. 1980 is a great year for albums that are favourites of mine so this will be interesting.

Does this mean it doesn't sound like Steely Dan? Maybe i'll like this one so. @pete, clearly you're just trolling us now. Did anyone actually vote for this?
