Just the intro and guitar riff, I wonder how conscious this was on Mick Jones' part Tom Verlaine - Kingdom Come Big Audio Dynamite - Medicine Show incidentally, mad old video by Big Audio Dynamite there, most of the Clash in it, John Lydon turns up at the end, weird mid 80s punk reunion.

interesting. Remember Green Day doing Picture Book? Maybe all the pop punk bands got the best of hoping to hear You Really Got Me and ended up grooving around their house to quaint songs about going for a walk in the park

( the last one being a dodgy Prince on-autopilot writing songs for his girlfriend ) anyway, rather than moan about it I think the only solution to this is that every band should write a new song to this little riff, Bo Diddley beat style

Some book I read said this was a sample, it is absolutely not a sample but I'd say there's a fair chance JDB took the strings riff and chord sequence and made it a manics song, kind of amazingly done tbh. Can never be unheard now

Lili, why is Prince a genius, mostly I find him ok. Well, here is the song that Prince fairly obviously ripped off for Kiss all he did was take away ALL THE PARTS that make it recognizable - all those brass lines, the fucking bassline of a funk song - and he altered the production into some...

He's credited as playing a synth line or something but I think it's a pretty clear tribute as it is - those minneapolis sound synth hits, the guitar line is clearly a take on the solo in Kiss and the video is like a remix of his videos all at the same time. I think it's really well done, less...

Hadn't realised that Rick James wrote a follow up to Super Freak that was so obvious it sounds like a copyright avoidance soundalike great video though

Found a tape of my brother as a child singing When Santa Got Stuck up the Chimney in the thick dub accent we all had back then and my brain immediately thought it was a Lankum track.

That's even got the key change! It must have been on purpose.
  18. Lili Marlene

    ______sounds like.........______

I mean it'd be a shit song either way but the blatent stealing of Prince's groove/synth and guitar lines just double annoys me on this one but sure they are TOTALLY OWNING THEIR CRITICS in the video so that'll shut me up
  19. Lili Marlene
