What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Yeah I loved it too and agree it was difficult to keep up in parts. Will definitely read it again to get a better grip on it. But it is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary pieces of writing I've ever come across. That's interesting about the Ulysses connection. Maybe she was onto...

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Ah yeah, he's definitely worth giving a go. I preferred his slightly experimental Dance-Dance-Dance and The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle over the more romantic ones like Norwegian Wood.

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

I really liked Wind Up Bird - it was the 2nd one I read. But I tired quite quickly of IQ84, seven or eight books later. So we feel the same, except in reverse. The Wind Up Bird has a great bit with a well, and a grotesque segment about some lad's skin. The running one is ace alright, but it...

Lol :) Which one are you reading? I loved the first four or so I read, but can't read him anymore either. Not that I think he's bad, I'm just done with him. Edit. Just noticed from another thread that I've read way more than I thought! No wonder I'm done with him. Rate all their book: Haruki...

What Book Did You Read Last Night???

Ah yeah, fair enough. I just always have this perception that "the Classics" are considered difficult reading for the most part. Must get Solar Bones. A one-line book. :barefoot:

Sounds great! I've only read The Bloody Chamber and Wise Children, both of which I really liked, even though I recall being frequently perplexed by them too. She certainly has a way with language. I often wonder if her books (and those of other writers from her period and earlier) were...

Recently finished The Summer Book by Tove Jansson. It tells the story of a young girl and her grandmother spending a summer together on an island. Simple, amusing, insightful and charming! Tove created The Moomins if anyone remembers them. There's a great BBC4 doc about her life on You Tube

GOD: I own you like I own the caves. THE OCEAN: Not a chance. No comparison. GOD: I made you. I could tame you. THE OCEAN: At one time, maybe. But not now.
