They're currently retrofitting cycle lanes to roads in Navan. Tearing down walls, chopping trees etc.

Also I wasn't in me gear so I attempted a few cycle paths in the town. Holy fuck total rubbish, starting and stopping in random places. No way to get on or off them with out getting off and getting up or down a huge kerb.

Agreed that a helmet won't do you much good in a fatal accident but I've seen people just come off the bike, when there are no cars around, and if it wasn't for the helmet they'd be quite badly injured. You can slip on gravel etc..

There is a great big wide cycle lane on my way to work but I don't use it. At the end there is no way off of it on to the road at the T junction at the end so you have to bunny hop on to the road, and the path is really high.

Did this. It was deadly. We went one way on Monday and the other way on Tuesday. It's actually well doable in both directions in one day. We were on rented hybrid bikes, pretty heavy compared to the road bike. It's on though because you can't go too fast on the greenway. Loved it.

Going straight to Waterford after the Neil Young gig in Kilkenny to do the Greenway the next day. Not really a road bike thing but it'll be fun.
