Actually, that gig is a pretty good comparison - they were going into their ravey phase but hadn't packaged it for popular consumption yet.

Yeah, I agree with that, but on the way out I most people I overheard were complaining "It wasn't music!" and "He didn't play anything I knew!".

I enjoyed this, but I'm guessing a lot of people thought otherwise. The closest comparison I can think of is Richard Youngs if he recorded for Hyperdub. Not much straightahead tuneage; more in the way of atmospheric electronics, repetitive vocalising and echoes of, I don't know, 80s pop? Missed...

    Disco edts

The Chic one at the top of this thread is the only re-edit I rate as better than the original, everything else I've heard is just scoring novelty/curiosity points. I dig the whole "salvaging gold from Phil Collinsesque shit" aesthetic in theory, but less so in practice. They go on about this...

    Annoyingly Rubbish Current Pop Songs

I agree, it's no Love Story. I don't know anything about pop music anymore, I never listen to the radio and the only time I see MTV or the like is when I'm staying in a hotel somewhere foreign. So I can fill you in on Dutch boybands circa last December.

Yep, just got mine. I like the way you can get WAVs instead of mp3s if you want. Haven't listened to the music yet though.

    The Road

Just saw the film. I thought it was spectacular: scene after scene of unrelenting grey, hopeless and hopeful eyes, a red Coke can, a stapler. That said, I haven't read the book and most of the reviews I've read come down to "it's not as good as the book".

I got my ticket from TicketWeb this evening, all the other online places were sold out. According to the last.fm page for the gig you can also still get tickets from the venue.

In London he's playing Heaven, which is a bit of an odd venue (have they always done gigs?). Had to check it wasn't some sort of club night thing. Anyway, not many tickets left for that one.

Gig of the Year - 2008?

A good year for gigs (which means I went to more than two). My favourites (all in London) were Animal Collective in Koko, Sonic Youth also in Koko and a great Hypnotic Brass Ensemble/Spok Frevo/Dhoad Gypsies/Kasai Allstars all-dayer at the Barbican.
