One of my favourite recent drams. I just finished the last drop of my bottle at Christmas. Put Mortlach 16 Year Old on your to do list if you like the Dailuaine.

Nah it wasn't me. I've been off for a few days moving house. I've never tried the mead, it's only ever bought by trenchcoat wearing dungeons and dragons types. I have tried some good Scottish ones. Let me know what the Bunratty is like.

Ah, sorry we've not had Van Winkle a year or two. We do have the Rittenhouse Ryes at the moment. @Theodore K: The Celtic Whiskey Shop on Dawson st.

    Running?

Well done Chris D! And big thanks to the nice Thumped heads for sponsoring me, you know who you are! My race was mostly good. I went off at a blistering pace and did the 1st half in 1hr28mins. Hit trouble before that point with stomach cramps, then really hit the wall at about 16/17 miles...

    Running?

I know how you feel. I'd prefer to run it sooner rather than later. Had terrible stomach cramps towards the end of a long run yesterday and had to abort that one. I'd been trying out new gels and they didn't agree with me. Due to some other poor runs I've revised my time to around 3.15, I'd be...

Thanks Pete! I'll keep you all posted on how the fundraising and the race go.

    Running?

Hey, I'm running the Dubin Marathon at the end of the month in aid of Turn The Tide of Suicide. It's a very worthy cause and for what it's worth I'm working and running harder than I ever knew possible to reach my target of around 3hrs (most likely around 3hrs10mins). If you would like to...

Anyone here running the Great Ireland Run on Sunday?

I'm going to buy a record player...................

The one here for €179 here is apparently very good. I wouldn't bother with any of those crappy USB ones you get in Maplin etc. Otherwise adverts.ie can be good for the odd 2nd hand bargain. That's where I got mine.

    Home Brewing

Lots of homebrewers hang out at http://www.beoir.org/ . I only use it for reference but you'll find pretty much everything you need to know there. My advice is to start with a starter kit with a prepacked brew kit. Then move onto extract + real hop brewing and then eventually whole grain...

No. You do need a smart phone with GPS though.

    Running?

Those Garmin GPS watches seem to be the best. I think they start at around €150ish. I use Endomondo on my phone and it is great. You get 1km split times through your earphones plus expected finish time, calories burned, speed etc whenever you want. You can even check your progress on google...

    What's the deal with Shebeen?

The owner dicked people around big time. He has at one point owned Cafe Bar Deli, Ri Ra, and Eden in Temple Bar. His business model seems to be to expand as quickly as possible funding it all by not paying any bills. When one business closes he often opens up the next day under a different...

    Running?

Oh yeah. I'll be aiming for sub 3:30 on my next one at the very least. I probably could have done last week in 3:30 but didn't want to chance my luck. Not knowing how you'll feel in the last stretch is a big doubt, especially on the first attempt. Thinking about Berlin, SF or Barcelona next...

    Running?

Oh hai! Really good actually. I found the first half pretty easy, the last 5 miles were tough but I didn't hit the wall which was my biggest worry. Did it in 3:38 which is kind of where I hoped to finish. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys running. The atmosphere was amazing and the...
