That's great, sounds like you have thought about everything. I hope my post didn't come across as condescending, it was intended as a shorthand for avoiding a long list of things which might make the experience a drag rather than something productive. For what it's worth, I recorded in Sun many...

    Dublin Recording Studios

Hey... Am I right in saying that this is the first studio experience you've been in or at least the first that you've had to steer yourself through? Your concern about the etiquette of whether it's ok to bring in your own engineer makes me think you could probably do with someone to guide you...

    Running?

Anyone tried the book / barefoot running? So far (1 month) I've really been enjoying it. Somehow it's made the process easier, and very enjoyable. So far (fingers crossed) no injuries or any problems that a day off or a good stretch haven't entirely cured.

    Running?

Just back from a drizzly 2mile run, v happy with progress. Right, @Lili Marlene, get ready for a tl/dr post: It's kind of a grail quest story. McDougall was a recreational runner who kept injuring himself, and began to look at what the problems were, and how to solve them. There are several...

    Running?

I read this entire thread while waiting for the rain to stop so I could go for a run...very heartening. For the last couple of weeks I've been "running" again after a break of a couple of years. Mostly barefoot...the Born To Run book was my starting point. (@Shaney It's a great encouragement for...

    Modern Classical

I'll check out The Harp Of Albion, thanks. Hadn't heard of it - or much of Riley's stuff beyond In C in fact. Check this out: (not just intonation or anything)

    Modern Classical

That's a nice surprise...would be really great to see some more of his stuff get a release...an affordable & legal copy of The Well-Tuned Piano would be just brilliant. And some of the recent Just Alap Raga Ensemble performances...all well-documented. €46 for shipping is typical Mela Foundation...

A colleague found this in the Irish Times a while back...thought it was very cute. I hope she found someone :)

Selling on Discogs - any advice?

Yeah, raise a service request. V productive. I did that with the tape listing I mentioned above, instantly felt better.

What's the most you've ever paid for a record / cd?

This is the most I've spent on one record: €99 for a beautiful original, mint copy of http://www.discogs.com/Alexander-von-Schlippenbach-Globe-Unity/release/1879277. I paid €75 for a VG+ original copy of this one...

What's the most you've ever paid for a record / cd?

€400...wow. That's what happens when popular meets rare. My avatar is one of the ones I picked up, Voices by Manfred Schoof Quintett from 1966. I found an original VG+ for €75 about a year ago. Had a charged couple of hours deciding whether to go for it. Both financially and emotionally, yeah...

Selling on Discogs - any advice?

Re discounts: I've bought a few records which were quite expensive. I ALWAYS asked for a discount on these items, or some kind of deal on postage or whatever, or a rounding down of the final figure. And I got one every single time, whether or not it was a "make an offer" item. Sometimes it was...

Selling on Discogs - any advice?

Here's one for you seller types... I bought a tape last year for €15 which was from an edition limited to 50 copies. This was the "very last copy", and had no cover. So I buy it, and it gets delivered. Sound. But then a week after the sale the guy puts up the identical listing again, the tape...

Brian 'Idiot' Mooney live shows this week

This deserves a proper bump. If I wasn't struck down with a bad virus (is there a good one?) I would be going. Dylan is a visceral, emotive performer. Brian is one of the most incisive lyricists in town. No point overselling it, just take a punt, you won't be disappointed.

Selling on Discogs - any advice?

The record arrived some time in the last couple of days, got it this morning. It's as bonkers as I had hoped, but much less good. No sign of any of the krautrock legends getting groovy at all. In fact it could be any reasonably decent bunch of studio heads. Completely anonymous. And there's a...

Musicians: Do you have to make yourself do music?

Howya! :) Thanks! Thumped has proved significantly less irritating than Facebook and a lot less of a time drain. Just a thought, but did you think of trying Ballyfermot college or BIMM for a drummer? I don't know anything about BIMM but I gather there's a very mixed bunch of people in...

Musicians: Do you have to make yourself do music?

Apologies for running off at the mouth here, I'm enjoying the reading and the ideas. In relation to this post: I believe this is true. Spending of large amounts of time "thinking about doing" is crippling, in many ways. I have a sneaking suspicion that this kind of thing (I experience it...
