The 'share a song you can't stop playing' thread

I'm completely obsessed by Mohammad Reza Mortazavi. This is my favourite of his. Quiet banger.

Why you should give up on your dreams

Deadly work Egg! Provocative message, which I really enjoyed. Cure reference above is spot on, somewhere around Wild Mood Swings era maybe? I'd buy an album of this stuff no bother, if you'd care to dream big and put your entire life on hold for a couple more years...er... :)

What's the protocol for dealing with people in messed up relationships?

I hope you can stay the course for your friends, especially given your own story. It's a long long process, and a big ask for a friend. You do have a role to play, insofar as you can be a sounding board and as non-judgmental as possible. You don't need to be an expert to do this but you have to...

What's the protocol for dealing with people in messed up relationships?

Providing a space for both people to explore what their situation is and how they're feeling about it might be useful rather than attempting to resolve it in the short term for them. Obviously the acute damage has to stop - fair dues for the offer of the bed for the person. And you've had to...

I'm going to buy a record player...................

Thanks for that. I upped it from the recommended 1.5 to 2g. It improved but still not right. Upped it another .25g, better again. I guess that's it. I wonder whether a newer tonearm would actually not have this problem and still be able to function with less weight?

I'm going to buy a record player...................

Thanks for the reply! The turntable is on its own table separate from the speakers. There's no anti-skate, the manual says it's set up for decent anti-skate without adjustment...it's a fairly basic yoke. I'd be reluctant to sort the problem out by changing the tracking weight much, as I'd be...

I'm going to buy a record player...................

Heyiz. Have any of you come across problems with your turntables playing bass-heavy records? Old records all seem fine, but recent well-produced stuff with a lot of bass drum woof makes the fecker skip fairly consistently. The turntable is a very basic old Pro-Ject P15 which I think is in...

Just in case anyone is wondering, I got an email address for Gary this morning and got a lovely mail from him. He's well and living in London.

Further to this, I am told by @portrid that the Mark E Smith spoken word show was 20 years ago next Monday. #lookbackbore

I do have a vague memory of him being grumpy a few times too, but in fairness at the time I was probably buying appalling music, which I did a lot back then. I think I was going there for so long - literally every time I was in there I found something I really wanted - that he eventually melted...

Yeah, amazing chap. Knew everybody...I think he was mates with Joss who used to post here. I got so many good books there too, had forgotten about that entire section of the shop! In 2001 @portrid and myself were talking about organising a spoken-word gig for Mark E Smith. Gary was such a huge...

No, that was Gary, lovely fella. I really miss that record shop. The photographer is Julian Lloyd, who lives in Leixlip. He was school buddies with Nick Drake, I think. He owns the poncho, and had lent it to Gary for many years. It was a bit moth eaten alright but it was instantly recognisable...
