Words and phrases that are soooo...meh! Like meh (2 Viewers)

The word kresh sounds horrible.

how long has the word crèche being used to mean nursery in English?
Why is it spelled crèche and pronounced kresh and not krechy or cre-che?
The two C's in crèche have different pronunciations and there is nothing to indicate this.
Why is there a line over the first E
but no cedilla under the second C
to soften the sound?
In English at least, it's a silly word.

that explains some of the weirdness.

200 years? It’s also widely used in zoology to describe similar arrangements in animals like lions where the offspring of multiple parents are cared for together while parents take turns to go hunting.

I can’t help you with your issue with the phonemes though. It’s literally what the legal profession is based on (Latin languages call a solicitor an avocado 🥑) and the word advocate is fairly common. Is your problem with the idea of advocacy, or the word itself?

None of these are digs by the way, I’m genuinely curious as to why these words which seem so everyday to me.
