US politics (4 Viewers)

I wasn't sure about posting it at all because I don't want to drive up his clicks, but it seemed topical, and sure if we can't discuss this kind of thing here, then where?

Yeah totally - better to know the world than to deny it's existence and it is a good place to chat about it. I agree with what you say about the woody and all the rest coming from a civil rights mindset and this seeming to be completely at odds with it.

It's interesting to me. The commenters think that this guy is supporting their "civil rights"; right to bear arms, to defend yourself....take on the role of a vigilante?

I really think they do not see a difference between this song and that one

I'd say also

A: the comments are being heavily adminned, If i was making 6 grand a month i'd sit all night at that shit.

B: kkk types are all coming in from thier whatsapp groups to give him a boost.

You get the bob dylan fan types hovering about the net now and again with 'there's no protest music any more [posts ancient dylan tune] and when i'm bored i'll always counter that white men are past the days of writing protest music, we have it ok, look to the women and the people of colour and the immigrants for the sharp edge of protest and then you get [yeah man but like dylan] - but anywhooo it's that point to extreme - whats considered a folk protest song here is a kid being driven by his mom over two statelines to shoot at people and some 'folk rebel' thinking thats the sharp edge of protest in america because both him and the fanbase cant comprehend that protest music might actually just be hip hop and grime nai.

trump was using this song - from a certain angle you can make any piece of art say what you want it to say..
There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan, but I am to them
So I try to forget it any way I can
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
There's an old street light (near a garbage can)
Near a garbage can (near a garbage can)
And now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand
We got department stores and toilet paper
Got Styrofoam boxes for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people, says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn, got roads to drive
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world

Old Man Trump

Words by Woody Guthrie Adapted by Ryan Harvey, Music by Ryan Harvey

I suppose that Old Man Trump knows just how much racial hate
He stirred up in that bloodpot of human hearts
When he drawed that color line
Here at his Beach Haven family project

Beach Haven ain't my home!
No, I just can't pay this rent!
My money's down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain't my home!

I'm calling out my welcome to you and your man both
Welcoming you here to Beach Haven
To love in any way you please and to have some kind of a decent place
To have your kids raised up in.

Beach Haven ain't my home!
No, I just can't pay this rent!
My money's down the drain,
And my soul is badly bent!
Beach Haven is Trump’s Tower
Where no black folks come to roam,
No, no, Old Man Trump!
Old Beach Haven ain't my home!

Kyle Rittenhouse acquitted.

Shit is, justifiably, going to kick off.

Curious to know why justifiable so? It can be argued that the law is a little sketchy but he was rightly acquitted based on the framework they're dealing with. I'm personally more disgusted at media outlets portrayal and even bidens election piece.

It certainly wasn't some white supremecist blasting peaceful protestors for the craic. I thought he showed an admirable amount of restraint at times during the footage.

I'd say within the framework of the worst country in the world where 17 year olds carry automatic weapons around to defend other people's property because property is genuinely way more important than people in their mind, it was self defense, yeah. Not even being sarky here, I think the right call was made. Within the context of America I think self-defense makes sense. There's no reforming a country like that, nuke it from orbit.

Related: I was listening to some lawyers discuss the case and they were talking about how bad the prosecution was, and they were saying this is not surprising because it's defense lawyers who tend to be really talented, because they have to be. Apparently prosecution lawyers are so used to having the weight of the system on their side that they get away with being really sloppy, so in a case where the system is suddenly against them they're fucked.

I believe the Kenosha damage was 50 million. I'd put this back on the folks that had no affiliation with BLM but rather fancied some argy bargy. Property is certainly not worth a human life but destruction of a business can ruin families and the associated mess that could follow that. The whole thing is loopy.... Sex offender gets out of psych ward, joins in, medic points gun at him and the other dude whacks him with a skateboard and a mob in tow.

The prosecution were a disgrace. Questioning his right to be silent, distributing low res footage, revealing a third offender when the trial ended and pointing the gun at the jury to stir up some emotion.

Jury intimidation as well with MSNBC caught tailing the jury transport vehicle.

No one is a winner, its just a really shit outcome that has so many strands 😔

Yeah, i'm not too worried about what the damage to Kenosha was, or the mental damage resulting from the "destruction of a business" in a country that has spent decades defunding healthcare, education, infrastructure, you name it and replacing them with freedom, FREEDOM, FREEEEEEEDOM (and no money). Reminds me of all the people who suddenly cared about the mental health of workers when Covid shut down the businesses that were renting their properties.

I don't care if you're on the side of the purple hairs, a Red Scare girl fanboy, a Glenn Greenwald addict, Tucker Carlson's biggest fan, a New York Times reader, a Chapo Trap House stan, a standard Joe Rogan listener, or haven't a clue who any of them are, it's all cursed. I reiterate. The USA: NUKE IT FROM ORBIT.

I think what all this means is that Lili's current take on US politics can be summed up with
