Fontaines DC (1 Viewer)

Fontaines were just on Other Voices there, not that I have a TV or anything, and I never realised that they have a song which is just a complete and blatant ripoff of Sally Maclennane by The Pogues. I guess this is for all the non-Irish people that might listen to them and think oh isn't that original or something.

Dublin Sky or something. People love it but pretty sure someone spotted it up thread as a Sally lift. Although folk music is obviously lifty by design.

Ahaha, its like this was written purposely to wind up Irish Karl Marx Mug Twitter

Slinking seeming fully-formed from Dublin’s working-class neighborhood The Liberties, the five-piece established themselves as bona fide inheritors of a centuries-long socialist-bohemian tradition

Quite apart from the merit or lack thereof of the band, that review reads like something from a college paper.

They could get away with that claim on a technicality. BIMM is in the liberties.

True. But it's hilarious using that as some sort of signifier of "authentic" working-class cred. Isn't it the case that the only high-profile Irish band who can actually credibly make this claim are The Script? And Imelda May.

Really, the Script? Do tell, I was not aware of this.

Was pretty sure that the two guys from The Script were from The Liberties but I now go and look at Wikipedia and see that ...

"Danny O'Donoghue was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Shay O'Donoghue, a member of the band The Dreams, and Ailish O'Donoghue. He is the youngest of six children and was raised in Ballinteer, Dublin."

Interestingly also, according to this, both the main band members are 1.91 metres tall.
