Movie Review - Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is "a definitive and worthy end to a beloved but troubled saga" says John Kealy

Going to see this on Christmas Eve. Dreading it. It's in the Stella though so if I brought my earplugs I might be able to settle in for a nice nap.

I might rewatch that hated trilogy over christmas to annoy people.
There's a defense for them and all the 90's computer games/ novels where George Lucas basically said "go crazy" to anyone who had half an idea - pretty freeing and cool of him really.

Under Disney you may only remake the original trilogy with some minor cosmetic tweaks forever.

There is the subtext there that when presented with A: not the same movies again and B: new ideas and characters locations and dynamics the 'fans' had such a fucking global hissy fit that it was either make the same movies with actual zombie actors if needs be or forget about it.

Might watch them three times to make up the full saga, fuck it.

Could just watch Spaced again. Watched Season 2 last week still great.

Just throwing some dots in there because sometimes spoilers can surface on a phone preview.

It was alright. I'm not sentimentally attached to the franchise which means it seems a bit stupid sometimes. There were a fair few scenes that distinctly resembled scenes from the star treks that abrahms did. I'm sure the script sounded great in a boardroom.
Dead people acting in films is terrifying. continuity seemed a bit 'fuck it' around the time they killed chewy and then she never did the lightning hands again which was what i was kinda hoping for (maybe thor ruined that for her?)
I liked the surf bit kinda. Very funny helmets on some of the baddies, a nod to spaceballs? Agree with the review that the two main stroppy teens carry the film. The lady in the helmet whos face we never see was probably the person i fancied the most. Older actors giving zero fucks being out acted by robots and zombie robots.

It's shit, like all the other new Star Wars films.
Time to face the facts, George Lucas made better Star Wars films than Disney can, even when he was putting fucking Jar-Jar in.
George Lucas made better SW movies before CGI but I’d easily take the new trilogy over Episodes 1-3.

See Episode I might be a load of shite and all, but at least with Lucas' films there's a bit of plot, a bit of cause and effect, a bit of effort but into it.
Disney Star Wars is literally just "Okay this needs to happen, so now it's happening, okay this needs to happen next, so that'll happen now, ad nauseam", there's no plot, it's just one action scene to the next with no effort whatsoever required to get there. Boring as fuck, there's literally no intelligence to it. Imagine that, crediting George Lucas with intelligence!!

Saw it last night
Bounced from my work Christmas party to watch one of the most joyless cinema experiences I’ve ever had

A packed IMAX theatre on an opening night – their actual fanbase, the first-in-line losers like me - and almost zero crowd reaction, even to the big cameos and all the comedy bits.
Zippo.

After the Avengers movie where Thanos (who was right) snapped his fingers and triggered all that death, the theatre I was in had people crying in it – fucking gobdaws, cos everyone knows they’re not really dead – which at least was a reaction.

This ended with no applause, nothing.
42 years into this thing of ours, and it was just the sound of 3D glasses being dropped in the bucket as people quietly filed out afterwards.

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.
