The Clash - Sandinista! (1980) (1 Viewer)

Dub is fine. Ska is not.
Well obviously you're completely wrong about ska but that's for another day and there's none on this album. You'll still prolly hate it but sure, as a signed up Clash hater already i'm kinda curious what you'll make of this glorious mess.

Surely a nod to Jamaican music? Sung version of song on one side and dub version on the other.
That didn't occur to me (about the different sides). I just let it play through. I really need to own a copy of this.

Fair point on Jamaican music. I'm thinking there's a bit of both there. I need to listen again.

Seriously though, the version of career opportunities near the end is absolutely adorable.

I realised I never posted in here again after my three listens. It took a long time to listen to it again and again (I haven't gone back to it since the third listen). From what I remember, there was some great stuff on it and bits that I didn't like at all. It struck me as a bit of a White Album thing - something that you could really get into and embrace the eclecticism or that you could find insufferable. I could be persuaded to listen to this again.

Anyway, the reason I came into this thread was to post this:
Year Zero: The Clash in Trinity 1977

I wonder will they address how completely inconsequential the Clash are to modern pop culture?

This is great

Total on the edge of falling apart playing, Paul concentrating SO HARD on the bassline, Joe just about managing to spit out the entire thesis-length of lyrics and Mick Jones with full on guitar effects up to 11 overwhelming everything, amazin'. Topper is doing grand though.

Really interested in the next segment as well...

Saving these for whenever I think about how the Clash were a cool looking band

This actually turned out to be really well done, went relatively deep. Chuck D is great in it
